"I have been a customer friend of The Balmoral Hotel for over 25 years. What is now 'Brasserie Prince ' was previously Hadrians. I remembered it as a sophisticated calming corner of Edinburgh where a certain type of clientele could shelter from the business of the city and enjoy unfussy and elegant cuisine, in refined surroundings and adult company. Since my departure to live in Italy, Hadrian 's has been refurbished and rebounded as Brasserie Prince. They have succeeded in improving on the quiet elegant, but obviously millennium, decor in turning the restaurant into a refined boujee French style eatery. It looks fabulous. The service is still of a faultless standard, with staff knowledgeable in both the mouth watering culinary offerings and accompanying wines. One cannot fault the service, the food, nor design, so you must be asking why do I only afford them 3 stars.....well!! On both my recent visits, which I must acknowledge were at the start of the festive season, the place was 'bouncing. ' The music was loud, verging on the impossing. On both occasions, I was surrounded by tables of children. One of 3, one of 4 and another of 2. Whilst they were generally well-behaved, better than my own would have been at that age, they were noisy, screechie. I pondered why parents would think it appropriate to bring their loveable rugrats into what is a very adult and quite expensive venue, knowing how their presence may disturb others, or maybe that is me showing my ager,, 52! That they want to eat there, so selfishly bring their small humans and don 't even consider other people. By opening up the venue, making it accessible to everyone, the management has made it very less appealing to the demograph that are seeking out something, well...more select. I wouldn 't go back, no matter how good the food and service were. I think the F&B team at The Balmoral could look at opening One for lunch, or another space, where those willing to pay a bit more for a more select and quieter experience, could hide away in. I think in opening the venue up, making it more accessible, they may have thrown the baby out with the bath water. One last point. The 'Discretionary tip ' added to the bill automatically , an American idea.....robs the guest of the joy of tipping. It 's 100% a mistake. If anyone knows where adults can go to have a nice peaceful meal in Edinburgh now, please let me know."

Best welcoming vibe Food is ok I will come back cause the best staff I ever met in this area Brendan was our waitperson I never met someone as passionate about his job as this guy Note avoid seating beside table with kids they are noisy

Incredible care and attention put in to every item on the menu. Service was impeccable throughout. Best fillet steak I’ve ever had but must mention the roast lamb belly loin which was incredible. Very generous portions which is a huge tick and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.

Visited Brasserie Prince on a few occasions since having dinner in Number One at start of the 2023. We popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. The menu changes seasonally and good value for money. Our waiter was very confident, happy knowledgeable on the cocktail, wine and food menus. Our food was amazing and we had another wonderful experience. We highly recommend and will definitely be back soon. x Ver carta

Perfect menu. Not masses to chose from. Great decor. Beautifully calm atmosphere. Amazing, attentive waiter. His name is Calder. Couldn't do enough for you. Right, now the food side of things. I suggest you order something you don't normally order. You will be pleasantly suprised. The crab with creme fraiche on a crumpet blew my taste buds to smithereens. The price was very good. Oh, the best whisky sour I've EVER had. Go and enjoy!!!

We've been coming here for 11 years, and love the French onion soup and fish pie. Unfortunately we were disappointed the fish pie wasn't on the menu and the consistency of the french and onion soup was too thick not enough liquid and had a powerful flavour which was too much so couldn't finish. We later found out it was some sort of port. Also they've changed chefs which made sense to the changes. We love the ambience and service you can't beat it anywhere. Just a shame about that dish. . The lamb was delicious though.

Consistently the best dining experience we had in Edinburgh because of the people, the food and attention to detail. We ate here for breakfast and dinner several times. Everything about Brasserie Prince is perfect. Special thanks to the exceptional Finlay and Calder. The food is excellent, the service from the entire team is world-class, a special level of excellence that is genuine and friendly. If ordering dinner, in addition to your entree, be sure to order appetizers and sides as they are excellent and you might overlook them on the menu at first glance. Wow, what a wonderful surprise! We booked this because so many other restaurants in town were full. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary, and we stayed at the Balmoral in the past, but not had dining at any of the restaurants. We were not disappointed. Our waiter, Andrea was fantastic. He was from Italy and he was so endearing and knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the dishes and the wine. The halibut was melt in your mouth. The lamb was tasty. Olives were as good as any Spanish restaurant. Their special gin and tonic with their Balmoral Gin was a perfect apéritif. They gave us a nice cozy booth. I generally only leave a review when I've been somewhere truly great, so sadly I don't often get to complete a review on TripAdvisor. My fiancée and I had dinner at the brasserie at The Balmoral this evening and I suspect we will be talking about it for some time to come. In a nutshell everything was fantastic. The food was truly delicious. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. For dessert we had the profiteroles to share and I have never had a dessert so tasty. Really wanted to lick the plate! But perhaps the best thing about the evening was the service. The attention to detail, impeccable and friendly service, yet not overbearing.
