"Formerly "Military Café" (1793) became "Peace Coffee" in 1900. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1984. It is the emblematic establishment of the city centre of La Rochelle. Located in Place de Verdun at 54 rue Chaudrier, the various restorations have preserved the sumptuous decorations of the ceilings and the unique charm of this place that has been attended by the greatest personalities, the world of arts or politics, over the last two centuries. Inside, the very large room offers various small cossus lounges where it is possible to consume drinks and also to have lunch in peace if you wish. On the outside under the rocky arcades, a terrace where you can see, still planted in the wall, the ring where Georges Simenon tied his horse during his rocky period. On the other side of the street on the esplanade of Place de Verdun, a large sunny terrace allows a pleasant lunch in front of the beautiful facade of this magnificent café."
