"If you know Bouliac then you will be aware that there was a Michelin star restaurant there, (this is not it) and the restaurant concerned does not ahve the star anymore, the chef left and took the star with him. There are also other restaurants there too but this review concerns the Cafe de l'esperance, to be in this location it has to be good, it is, great staff, great service and the food matches all, not a large menu, (signs of a good restaurant) but specials each day, this day for lunch I had the crab salad (Large), excellent, on this visit I did not need anything else, wine list is also good, well it is Bordeaux!! all in all great place, certainly for lunch, as a matter of interest, it looks small but just step inside and walk through, past the bar into a large area, can't better the service."

Everything here is in French. The staff was great doing their best to interpret the menu for us. Once we chose, the food and service and wine was great. Not fancy but good local fresh food.

Brasserie style restaurant, excellent meat, home made fries. fresh salad, serious dessert buffet, in a nice environment, one of my favorites around bordeaux. Reserve as it is a popular place for people living nearby.

We stayed in the St James and we had a diner in this typical French bistrot because the restaurant in he hotel was closed, and I don't regret this experience. Food was very good, quality food and very nice service. Recommended ! Ver carta

We hadn't booked but we managed to get a table. Service was very professional and the food came promptly. The menu du jour appeared to be very good value, however we decided to eat from the a la carte menu. On the menu du jour the starter and dessert is buffet style and you could eat as much as you wanted. I had the buffet dessert and the ones I tried were delicious. Definitely worth going.

Stopped in for lunch between wineries. Small, comfortable little cafe/restaurant with a few outdoor seats. Helpful, smiling staff. One "menu of the day" and an ala cart menu. Decent selection of wine. My veal was fine, perhaps overcooked, but tasted nice. Ratatouille was good as well. French fries were really "chips" in the English sense, but with skins on and done well. Pork was outstanding. Salads were fine, but only lettuce, nothing else. Decent Jamon platter.

Duck entrecote, ham iberico, argentinian entrecote black angus for 2, ... with butternut puree, fries and green salad. This was our perfect dinner for 5 in the real-wood-chimney private room. They do have a fish on the menu as well as interesting starters and desserts including a starters buffet and a desserts one. Well done particularly that it is located in a really small village. It is owned by Hotel St James and is 1 mn walk from the hotel hence very convenient for its customers. Ver carta

It is true that there isn't a huge choice of restaurants in Bouliac, however this deserves a full excellent rating. The menu is fairly traditional so no exotic dishes, however all cooked perfectly and especially with great ingredients. We had a full à la carte menu and everything was very good, apart maybe the moelleux au chocolat, which was lukewarm and a little too dry. Great. Choice of wine. Service good and friendly despite a very large group being served on the terrace and requiring a lot of attention.

There are a lot of different sections to this quaint restaurant and it is amazing how many people it can cater for. The lamb kebab was so tender and the frites were awesome. We then decided on the buffet for dessert. There must be around 18 little tasters like Mini Iles Flotantes and you can have as many as you want, although between us we couldn't even manage half of that. Everyone was so friendly and the waitress was very helpful even though she didn't speak much English. Service was excellent and we would definitely return when in the area again.
