"We visited the Fika cafe recently while on holiday in the area. We initially received a warm welcome. We ordered two cappuccino coffees and a scone. The coffees were very nice and well presented. Unfortunately our experience went down hill from there. There were two seats at the window which we went to sit at. We were advised that these seats were reserved for 2 pm. This was about 1.40 pm so we went to other seats in case the people came in early. The cafe is very small and there is not a lot of space. We ended up taking two seats next to the till area which was raised above the floor area below. Two apparently regular customers were sat in the corner. The proprietor employee had an ongoing conversation over our head with these customers to our total exclusion. This conduct totally undermined the initial friendly welcome and made us feel awkward and keen to leave. We would not recommend this cafe as a result and would not visit again."

Dropped into the cafe for the first time today. Cosy friendly little cafe, fine coffee and tea and select choice of lovely cakes. We had the chocolate and pear scones OMG lush! Missed out on this cafe due to work and Covid, but now retired so will be back

A fantastic espresso. One of the best I’ve had in Scotland. Great selection of cakes I had the cinnamon roll which was very good. A very cool cafe with a great variety of seating options and newspapers/books to read. Staff were friendly and obviously passionate about their cafe. Would highly recommend. Ver carta

Had an amazing lunch at Cafe Fika. It’s a lovely wee place with a very tasty menu with plenty for vegetarians and vegans. I had the bagel with cream cheese and tomato and basil. It was lovely and the raspberry side salad was delicious too. I had a chai latte to drink which was also excellent We will be back very soon

So if you 're going to open a cafe I think the first thing you would do is think What would I think would be the ideal cafe? . You might think of keeping food affordable.always having beautiful vegan and gluten free options without acting like you 're a saint or a genius for doing so.Maybe you would lose some potential profit here and there by using tasty high quality often locally produced organic ingredients. You might put the same effort and standard into the coffee choice too. You 'd probably like to give decent portions knowing from experience that skimpiness can make even the mightiest cake leave a bad taste in your mouth. If you 're not an ars h you 'd most likely want the place to be...

"Genuinely couldn't fault the experience. When I heard that the Drouthy had a new menu focusing more on a veggie and vegan base, I knew I had to give it a whirl. The starter of hot Smoked salmon with lemon creme fraiche and oatcakes was simple yet packed full of flavour. I could have easily have had 10 plates of that and been happy to give it 5 stars. My partner had the smoked duck and even though I have given up meat, I was salivating at the look of their dish. They assure me that it was as delicious as it looked. Served with lavender roasted potatoes (which I'm told were amazing and charred salsify. The mains were more than a match for the brilliant starters. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be get the beetroot risotto. Not being a massive fan of beetroot, I wasn't too sure about it. But the incredibly warm waiter (for my son's, I never got his name. I only hope he can forgive me if he reads this! assured me it was tasty. He was not wrong. Beautifully cooked vegan risotto with balsamic beetroot chunks, shiitake mushrooms and rocket, it was simply divine. WHEN I go back, I'll be hard pressed to go for anything else because it was so delicious. It was creamy, packed full of flavour and cooked absolutely perfectly. Just the right amount of bite, nowhere near being mush like you get in a lot of other places (who charge a lot more, by the way . Superb. The highest of compliments to the chef. I was so taken by my dish I forgot to ask how my partner's was until I had eaten all of mine. But their home made vegan tagliatelle had disappeared from the plate so it must have been amazing. I couldn't handle dessert so had a delicious ruby port (delaforce I think it was called , and I would also like to give credit to whoever came up with their wine list. It covered every single base and no-one could ever be disappointed. Finally, if you're ever in Elgin, please make sure this is one of your destinations. You will leave extremely happy."
