"As I 'm sure many others do, we stopped off whilst on the South Downs Cycle. It 's perfectly located and service was good. Food 'slightly ' dissapointing I had fish and chips (which given the proximity to the coast could have been better , one friend had a burger (reported to be good and another had a pizza (it looked like a cheesy mess but apparently was great! . Only a couple of beers had hoped for a few more options, but what they had was OK. Certainly worth a drink stop off, either as a reward for the leg north from Bramber, or as a loosener prior to going south!"

Don't bother visiting this pub. It's not a good place and the staff are not friendly. It's filled with locals who gossip and don't welcome visitors from out of town.

Myself and my family went for lunch today, WOW it was great. Even my mum loved it and she can be picky !! The garden is fantastic for children! Would highly recommend.

We were going for a cycle ride with a group of friends which included the stretch of the Downs Link, where we found the Cat and Canary. We all decided to have the full English breakfast, but had a vegetarian and another friend who didn't... Ver carta

We parked in the parking lot next to the pub to ride part of the downs link. After cycling to Shoreham and back, we stopped at this restaurant for some food. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed a delicious meal of ham, egg, and chips in the garden.

This restaurant offers delicious pizza, a good selection of beer, live sports on TV, and a pool table. It is the perfect place for a fun night out. They also offer food for takeout and have a spacious children's play area in the garden. What more could you ask for?

Well done Cat and Canary for your beer and cider festival this weekend. Good beers and cidars, BBQ food and music. Good beer selection. This is a local pub pub that is down to earth and friendly. Locals are crucial to to the pub all year round. Found them very friendly when I moved into area and went there to watch footie in the winter. Ver carta

We popped in here for lunch after a midweek walk along the river and Downslink old railway line. It was hot and sunny so we sat in the garden under a parasol. We chose from the simple lunchtime menu. Service was friendly, my pint of Harveys was in good condition, our food was served quickly and was very good especially the Club sandwich.

Since the kitchen has been taken over by Woods Kitchen, I have eaten in the Cat and Canary on many occasion and the food is excellent. The Eggs Benedict is fantastic. The children's menu is excellent and very good value for money. I really visited the Beer Festival at the Cat and Canary, they had a good selection of beers and ciders, live music and bbq with homemade burgers and much more more, all of which were reasonably priced.

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
