Great fish in salt crust. Was just fantastic. It’s definitely a place where the locals come and eat. Not fancy just great food!!!!

I used to go there often when I was living in the neighborhood. A genuine marseillese athmosphere in a typical old sailor district, fresh fish and affordable prices for a good meal.

Wonderful food, local crowd eating as reported by other reviews. Had the fisherman's stew since we did not have time to put in the bouillabaisse order. It was excellent!! One person in our party ordered Prawns and they were HUGE and excellent. Well worth the...trip.

We were disappointed. The restaurant lives off its reputation and does not try hard. The fish was OK but not great and the service was sloppy. They diid not care! The restaurant has a faithful clientele and maybe they are well served. There are many...much better restaurants in the area. If you get a table on the terrace the view is great but if you are inside, definitively not worth it. Ver carta

I visited Chez Aldo on a very cold night in early February but the welcome was warm and the food delicious. I went with a friend who lives in Marseille and who rated the restaurant highly. I enjoyed a wonderful meal of scallops, followed by...sea bass cooked on the charcoal grill which was absolutely superb my friend and I shared the fish and had a large fillet each. For dessert I had a trio of ice creams, including my favourite flavour of liquorice, but there was a very wide choice. We drank a beautiful local rose wine with the meal which, pleasingly, came in a half bottle size. We came here for a birthday dinner during our stay at Marseilles and left extremely disappointed, upset and confused. The service was rude from the very beginning; one female hostess was making faces at our waiter when there was some confusion about the menus (we...had one fluent French speaking family member with us so there was not a language barrier). Food was mediocre at best and the bill was outrageous. The American menu has completely different prices than the French menu and when we questioned why we were charged a ridiculous amount for lobster, we were met with “it is good price” and the same female hostess was so incredibly rude and nasty about it. We drove x to discover this restaurant but unlike the positive reviews we found it very very disappointing The service was impersonal, in automatic mode', not attentive ignoring the signs whenever we wanted to ask something. Probably because it was extremely busy...but this is no reason. The entrée chaude' was Saint-Jacques poêlées: not too bad but not worth the considering there were bits with just a handful of plain salad thrown on the plate. Then we both ordered Poisson cuit au gros sel: the fish was the best part of the meal and that was it, end of story. The mashed potatoes were limpid and tasteless.
