Went there with colleagues and were nicely surprised by nice welcome and very nice planche apero Nice menu with some original recette Well located on the street Solferino with a lot of night life around

We ate here twice during our visit to Lille - with good food and service. The first night we booked. The second - a Fridah - we went on the off-chance and had to have a table on the street, so would recommended booking in advance as it is very popular. They do have another restaurant within walking distance though.

In Lille for the Euro's with friends and Chez Max was recommended to us by the hotel we were staying in. Just as well, as you can easily miss it from the outside it being amongst a number of other bars.Waiter very friendly and engaging making for an enjoyable evening. Arrived early with a reservation we didn't need. Friendly waiter who spoke English well. Nice guy! Food was good. Wife has a sort of pulled lamb with sweet potatoes and loved it. I had the "pluma iberico" (pork). Both good. Desert was baba rhum -- stale cake with rum to pour over it. Prices were fair. Better than its sister restaurant, La Tradition, a block away

It is only a small place if you were not looking for it you could walk straight past. We had pre-selected from Trip AdvisorTwo waiters worked hard up and down stairs serving the guests. Both spoke good English and were prepared to explain items on the menuI went with the chef recommendation - a starter of smoked salmon with a citrus sorbet and then veal with red berries - both were excellent

We were in the restaurant in the beginning of April and were the first guests to arrive (19h30), the waiter was the only member of staff in the restaurant. While getting our order, he was called away 3 or 4 times on his (personal ?) cell phone.The Mojito aperitif was good, the food was okay, but no real amazing food. They were tripadvisors 7th ranking when we booked, and I don't think they are worthy of that rank. We travel a lot and normally the ratings on Tripadvisor are the ones we follow, but in this case, it was a let-down... Ver carta

Friendly staff, good service, Mac was really welcoming and helpful in choosing traditional courses!!Unfortunately, the Welsh didn't bear to our tasting!!The veal (agneau) was really delicious!!The evening however was ruined by a gruesome discovery as one of our friends found a bug in his side salad!!The owner assured us that everything was thoroughly cleaned!!He offered us a shot of rum to make up for that blunder!!Overall, interesting experience, meat was delicious, traditional Welsh was weird in a nice yet not-to-repeat way!Wouldn't go back there!!

Turned up around 1930 and the restaurant seemed quiet. The waiter was quick to attend to us and was very helpful and friendly. There were four of us eating and each of our starters were very good. The mains came out and were not quite to the same level, fish of the day seemed rather chewy but overall still good. The steak was cooked to perfection and the cold beef dish was something different and enjoyable. Here is where it started to go wrong. For desert we ordered the cheeseboard. It consisted of three small pieces of cheese. One was very rubbery and the other two had very strong and unpleasant tastes. Ah Max. What am I gonna do with you, Max? Max, you had the looks. Tight as every French place, but somehow still cosy. You had the talk, as despite being a native, I had to ask for an explanation of half of the menu. But the walk? That strange word to describe something close to an Andouillette but not quite an Andouillette. What was it again? Ah, yes, a Douillette! Something close to the real thing, just missed by an A.Then there were the Rognons on the specials. Actually, there weren't any. All the stock had been ordered by the 3 other persons in the restaurant at 19.30, and you were fresh out.
