"I was born and live in Scarborough-the home of Boyes store.Nowhere beats Boyes for value and choice.Decided to visit the cafe(first time in years) approx 1 30 in the afternoon. One young woman at the counter serving and taking the money.I ordered a cheese and onion toastie and pot of tea for one.thought it would be quicker as the chip tureen was empty and knew I would have to wait for fresh to be cooked, otherwise I would have had their steak pie etc(which in the Brid dept is brilliant)The toastie took absolutely ages to come and when it did I was appalled! luke warm, and underdone,no crispiness, and must have used half of a whole red onion!bit of salad on the side.Scraped most of the onion out of the sandwich, and ate nearly half--left the rest! How can anyone get a toasted sarnie wrong?Waste of money and left with revolting taste /onion breath rest of day.will never go again!Oh and the brilliant toilets were ruined by the one and only drier being out of order!(no paper towels supplied)"

We visit Boyes every time we are in Scarborough. Left with two massive bags of stuff we just couldn't live without.

Very good sausage rolls and nice latte although it is worth paying the extra for a mug of coffee pity they have no comfy chairs like Bridlington but the toilets are superb.

We were looking for something fast, easy, and affordable, and this restaurant was just what we needed. I enjoyed a delicious steak pie with roast potatoes and peas. Highly recommended!

"This place has positive reviews, so I can only assume they struggle with the busier summer season and standards slip. Despite the places with lovely sea views offering vegan menus, we chose Gianni's, on a back street in town, due to the reviews. We tried to book ahead but the line was engaged (5 times), so we instead tried walking in for an early meal at 6pm. We were shown to a table and 3 menus were presented one showing specials, the other two a folder containing the main menu, a meat menu and the drinks menus. There was a line on the main menu stating that the vegan menu should be requested. The table next to us had new customers brought to it but despite being right next to us, we couldn't get the staff's attention to request the vegan menu. Eventually someone came over asking if we were ready to order and we were finally able to request the menu. One vegan menu was brought to us and we ordered cautiously, given that the table who came in after us already had their starter and it was huge. Depressingly, that menu stated that vegan wines were available, which is what I'd have preferred if we didn't have the beers we'd ordered in the apparent absence of vegan wines. We ordered the foccacia with olive oil and balsamic to share. Two plates were brought to us. They were dirty and greasy. We requested clean plates and the waiter brought two more plates that were also greasy. Clean plates were provided on the 3rd attempt. The olive oil and balsamic are presented in bottles. These are evidently not wiped between customers as both bottles were greasy. The foccacia arrived and was simply the worst I've had. It was dry and stodgy, perhaps made a couple of days before or perhaps even earlier and frozen. We left most of it. The pizza was huge but the toppings had amalgamated into an emulsion like slop, causing the thin base to taste like uncooked dough. The chips were fine, as was the basic side salad. We didn't order dessert after the meal we'd had. The staff are mainly very young people with no one directing them, so they spent most of the time standing in the doorways chatting. They knew to serve the food and clear the tables but they clearly have had little to no customer service training and were not checking the customers had what they needed and were happy. This place is inexpensive and the portions are large, but rather than authentic Italian food, we were left with a sense of quantity over quality."
