"As a local I have been here a few times, mainly bringing guests to visit the farm shop and cafe. It is not a cheap lunch and, yet again I am underwhelmed by the food and service. We waited an age to be seated while waiting staff walked past over ten times. They smiled but didn’t acknowledge that we were waiting. Eventually we were seated and given one menu.. between two. I had to get up and go and get another one. Is it really too much to have one each? We were offered and served drinks, no problem. We ordered two sandwiches no granary bread left. What? You have a farm shop next door! Ok we chose sourdough. The sandwiches arrived with a bunch of leaves on the side. No dressing, no love, no care. Just leaves. The biggest horror was that in, what is presented as a quality establishment we were served sandwiches with cheap, margarine type spread that stuff that comes in huge plastic tubs. Reeeevolting. As a chef I find this really not ok. Cheap and average, very expensive. That’s it. Will not chance it again I’m afraid."

Good staff, food acceptable but very pricey. Quality not worth the expensive lunch. Sadly won’t go again. Food in shop also very pricey. Difficult to get round when busy.

We love coming here. The service is really friendly, the food is home cooked and authentic British with good quality ingredients, and the portions are really big. The halloumi burger and chili jam was delicious.

A regular place for us. However today when we there for tea and cake the waitress asked us if we would like a biscuit for our dog which is what a lot if dog friendly places do. Imagine our surprise when we paid we were charged £1.50 for a dog biscuit ! Come on Cowdray really?

Over rated. Trying to run a cafe as a posh restaurant. Table service but you have to get your own cutlery and condiments are in fast food packets. Half an hour queue to be sat at tables that had been empty the whole time. Food tasted good but over priced. Service was slow but staff polite.

Sadly, cannot give a positive review. Well over priced, very small portions and sent ours back. Service was a smables. Loads of staff just poorly trained and managed. They could not cope and most staff looked very stressed. A real shame. I will only order tea and cakes if we revisit as food is not good.

Excellent place to stop for lunch. Not as expensive as it would appear because of the good quality of what is offered. Celeriac soup was superb, as was the BLT sandwich. Plenty of parking but no apparent Blue Badge spaces. The shop can be eye wateringly expensive, though we found a whole shoulder of estate reared lamb for £18. Fresh vegetables looked limp and unattractive.

I came for lunch yesterday and had the risotto. I’ve eaten risotto in many different types of establishments. This was without exception the best risotto I have ever eaten. It was so full of flavour perfectly textured and just delicious. My friends had the fish and chips and the halloumi burger and they were also delicious. Thrilled this is my new local and thank you to the chef all the friendly staff. Hope it’s as good next week! Jo x

I’m a regular here it’s a lovely, bustling cafe. Service is speedy, super polite and professional, even if you have to wait for a table. Latest visit was for brunch and a delicious full English all of which is naturally gluten free and suitable for a coeliac, in the sausages. Always feel really looked after here with GFbread toasted under a separate grill and total understanding from service staff and kitchen. Recommend whether you need glutenfree or not, but for coeliacs it’s a lovely safe spot to enjoy. Thank you.

We only popped in for a coffee and milkshake after a family walk. Atmosphere and service fine but £5.50 for a milkshake?!! My son was slightly stunned to be presented with a small glass of vanilla milk with nothing to suggest it was worth £5.50 ! Just been to another farm shop cafe and £4.25 bought a vanilla milkshake triple the size made with local farm milk and topped with whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate shavings. Such a shame as just felt ripped off at Cowdray . It will take a lot for us to return and will look forward to the Lions Den opening on the high street where you get value for money!

"Very disappointing, after being locals to this pub for years sadly the new owners have taken a disliking to the younger generation of the pub, we have always spent vast amounts of money in this pub over the years and suddenly we are being greeted with a frosty reception, being told we’re not allowed to use the outdoor heater, being followed into the toilets and being told we’re not welcome in here or the swan. After asking to see a food menu at 2.30 in the afternoon (kitchen closes at 3) we were told they are not serving food, despite tables around us eating and receiving food. We’re more then happy to take our good custom elsewhere and support other local businesses in the area as we are always greeted with smiles and open arms. I would highly recommend people to avoid this disappointment of an establishment at all costs and put your money into the hands of happy faces in places such as the bricks or the olive and vine. Bearing in mind the younger generation are the ones who supported this pub during its hardest times and during lockdown, we would eat in here maybe twice a week. The wheatsheaf has been my partners local since he was 18 years old, he’s now 31. Sadly our friends have all had similar experiences over the last couple of months and it’s a shame that they are trying to make such a big change in custom in an extremely small town. Word travels fast in this place and I’m concerned they have their priorities all wrong. It’s a real shame that you’re turning away willing, loyal customers. I hope this review is understood as honest feedback from loyal customers who would like to see this place thrive. Regards."
