"We decided to pop into the Daleside Garden Centre one weekday lunchtime, hoping to have a quick tasty lunch with the little one. Living close by, we try to support and make the most of our local pubs, restaurants etc. We have been for food quite a few times and on those occasions we have been happy. Unfortunately, this visit was not a great experience at all. I can only think that they were either having an off day, or there has been a change in kitchen staff since we last visited. I ordered a cheese and chutney sandwich which was served on two thin slices of white bloomer bread. The cheese was grated but I would say that they must have been running low on cheese as there was hardly any in there! This was served with roughly 4-5 crisps and a wet salad. The salad was so sloppy it put me off the food immediately. The chutney was served in a small jar but again, wasn 't very tasty and not enough to cover the sandwich. Safe to say, I didn 't eat any of this. Not good at all. So onto the beef baguette that my partner ordered. Well I felt sorry for her as there were so many things wrong with this. The beef was dry.... well actually that 's an understatement. I would say that it had been cooked and then cooked again. You could tell that there was no love going into this meal. The salad was again very poor, I think they need to look at how they are storing the salad items to be honest. I had a sense that the food was dirty, I could be wrong but from the appearance, this is what sprung to mind. I really hope they were having an off day as we like supporting local places and would really want this to be good. The food we ordered isn 't difficult to do well, so I 'm sure that with a little love and attention they can sort this out. Unfortunately, we won 't be back in a rush to go back."

Not great and very expensive for what you get esp the size of cups for coffee. The toilets were in a dreadful state as well.

Use the toilets at your peril, dirty, shabby, rundown toilets and faeces on the tiles at the side of the toilet. Absolutely disgusting

First time in cafe, despite many trips around the garden centre. Met up with family for lunch a chat. All had cheese on toast. Nicely presented, not alot of cheese taste though, more sauce mustard! Tea nice. Sandwiches looked better, may go for a different choice next time. Toilets in a poor state, smelly cold. In need of an update.

We both had a cheese and ham toasted sandwich. I know prices have gone up generally in cafes and restaurants but £8.95 for a toasted sandwich is expensive. There was thick sliced ham in the sandwich , not processed which was good , but minimal cheese and it was hardly toasted , nearly all bread. There was cheese on the top which was hot but the sandwich was only warm. Infact I really should have sent it back . Not impressed. 2 toasties and a regular cup of coffee , £20+

Turned up on Sunday for a breakfast. We were one of only two parties. We ordered a breakfast which included a fried egg for my aunt, who asked politely if the fried egg could be substituted for a poached egg, but was told that this was a set menu and this would be impossible to do. My wife ordered poached egg on toast, and politely asked, again, given that they were already poaching eggs for her order, could they not poach an additional egg? Again the Manager refused, stating that this was a set menu, and incredibly now telling us that also it would be impossible to do because of food allergens . I ordered a sausage roll, with an extra portion of bacon. The sausages were sadly overdone, the...

We reviewed the Topiary restaurant (within the garden centre) positively four years back. We have had many lunches here and are positive over quality, service and value for money. Today however was different. We have not had a breakfast before. Nothing wrong with price or service but the food was dreadful. We had three portions of toast and asked that two of them were without butter. Only one was. The topping on two of these were scrambled egg and bacon. The bacon was cold, hard, a fork was no use with it. The quantity across the two portions would have struggled to make a single slice. There was plenty of scrambled egg but it was all in bits and somewhere between barely aired and cold. It s...

"Went for a drive Father's day and ended up having a meal here, we rang and luckily got a table for 7pm. On entry to the Celtic Arms it was a high walled gated area with absolutely beautiful gardens which went on for some considerable area, it is a golf club as well and a beautiful golf course with golf buggies opposite the restaurant. Opposite the golf buggies their is a play area that as I recall was fenced off but attached to the restaurant as its also a bar. On arrival to the resteraunt the manager was extremely warm and welcoming and escorted us to a table just outside of the restaurant. During the time we where in the Celtic Arms I observed the waitress in the restaurant constantly clean and spraying the tables which was absolutely so reassuring since the last covid people have relaxed a bit to much. A young lady who was equally as welcoming came and as us for our order, it was a set three course meal at £23.99 which we felt was really reasonable for such a lovely place. Halfway through our time in the Celtic Arms the young lady went home from her shift that had intially taken our order and I pressume we then passed to another waitress. I felt we where out of the eye of the bar but not in the restaurant so got a little forgotten about, although once we called a member of staff to remove our plates these where remove immediately. The starters where delicious with plenty of prawns on the prawn cocktail and the pate had an amazing homemade chutney. The mains where lamb and beef with the whole meal being cooked to perfection and hot with vegetables cooked just right. A lovely touch we felt was the lady out of the restaurant came and asked us if everything was to our liking and was there anything of the meal we would like a little extra off, I dare say you won't get a ton of potatoes or veg but the gesture was very touching and to be honest the meal size was ample. The desert white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake we shared and both agreed it was delicious, and we then shared a cheeseboard which I had got on the three course set menu. The delicious chutney again appeared with varies cheeses, crackers and grapes. Our compliments where left with the manager and the staff with our thanks for serving and delivering multiple resteraunts can not quite achieve. Well done Celtic arms for your polite, professional manner and serving a delicious good quality meal which was ample portioned, reasonably priced in an excellent environment. Would definitely recommend this place it's beautiful and wins hands down on the last 20 plus places we have been over the last few months. We will most definitely be going back again."
