"We went mid- week to take advantage of the £10 for 2 courses meal offer. For a country town hotel the restaurant was gorgeous. The service was impeccably welcoming and the menu nicely varied. The wine at £12 per bottle was surprisingly good. I had the terrine and pheasant, unfortunately both were lacking in much flavour and this reduces the whole marking to only average. The pheasant plate was however nicely presented. The coffee was hot, plentiful and tasty. The bill totalled at £37.50 for two. All in all we had a good evening and will definitely return."

This Restaraunt within the Trout Hotel is a great place to eat, not the cheapest of places but wonderful local meat, seafood and vegetables

Had Breakfast here which was really nice and consisted of a Continental style buffet breakfast reinforced with a full English if you wanted it. Both excellent and the service, environment and 'homely ' feel to this Hotel went down a treat! Ver carta

Really good sized portions, if you like meat try the Steak, Meat feast or the Beef Strogonoff. Alternatively, the fish was just as good. Loved the fact that we were able to eat in the restaurant from the bar menu which ensured plenty of choice over the Xmas period.

We stayed at the Trout Hotel and made a reservation for dinner at their Derwent Restaurant. It was fantastic! The atmosphere was lovely, the food was delicious and plentiful, and the service was wonderful. My husband had a steak and I had the sea bream, both of which were gorgeous. We were so full that we had no room for dessert, but they sounded amazing! Overall, it was great value for the experience.

I made a reservation at this restaurant and received lovely service. The meal was excellent, although it was a bit pricey. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was definitely worth visiting for a special treat. They also have special offers that make it more affordable, but we chose to indulge in their steak and were not disappointed. The restaurant has a cozy decor and background music playing, creating a nice atmosphere. Ver carta

We enjoyed a relaxed dinner in the Derwent restaurant the other evening. We have been there several times before and always have had good food and service. It's not the cheapest in Cockermouth but the quality of the cooking is always excellent. The three of us chose from the short menu so felt we had good value, quality local ingredients which were beautifully cooked. We look forward to our next visit to Cockermouth and the Derwent Restaurant.

My wife and I had dinner at the Derwent Restaurant for Valentine's Day. I found it strange that they had us sit in the pub like area first to order our food. I'm sure our table was ready and I would have preferred to sit in the formal dining room and order instead of a noisy area. But the selection of food was nice and everything I had was delicious. Service was good with one exception, when I purchase an expensive bottle of champagne I shouldn't have to pour my own glass. But all in all, an enjoyable dinner.

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
