"On a mini break, happened to find La Pergola by chance...can honestly say the food is very authentic, a true taste of Italy! The desserts were amazing too! High standard, quick and very pleasant service. Delicious food and generous portions! If I lived nearer I would make it my local! Hard to find authentic Italian food...from an Italian"

"Visited for a weekday lunch for our anniversary. The conservatory was half full and wound up around 3/4 full later on, I have seen some reviews that mentioned service but at this level of capacity the service was perfect. Everyone we spoke to was kind, friendly and passionate about the food and wine. We took recommendations from the sommelier for wines and our server for some of our dishes and we were impressed with all of them. Everything we ate was delicious and we sampled A LOT of the menu (3 small dishes, 2 starters, a main and 2 sides) and were impressed with everything. Even ingredients I would usually avoid as I don’t love them were impressive. I didn’t think I fancied any of the desserts but given how impressed we were with the other dishes we took a punt on the tapioca pudding and piggy fours, despite not being fans of two of the ingredients, again, all were delicious. It isn’t a cheap lunch out but perfect for a special occasion. A lovely setting, attentive staff and delicious food."

"no frightened ales just guinness or newcastle brown ale. no lammbrat left so my wife and I beef roast dinner ordered. the only veg that was served with the meat was baptized and red cabbage. roast potatoes big yorkshire pudding. When I asked at the end of the meal, if everything was due to the waitress that cleared our teller, in order, I expressed my unfortunateness with the lack of sweetness with the waitress that she would take it with the kitchen, but she never came back. when I paid in cash, the man did not ask me how our meals were paid in full, which was the best part and was not good. as a shame as I like this pub very much when we had eaten the last time there, I had a sandwich in the worth of bark served with a Brat dinner. at this opportunity I gave them the advantage of the doubt, but now I don't think we'll come back, as I think if they're short food in the kitchen, instead of telling them that they try to palm them with tiny portions or just put burrows and red cabbage on their teller and then load the full price and if they complain (as I did) but they sympathize with them. a shame."

"My wife and I were pleasantly surprised on our recent visit on Saturday 3rd March. The soup of the day (Carrot and Coriander) was superb with croutons and two large wedges of bread (choice of 5 styles). This is a great improvement on previous visits. The only doubt i have is the questionable decision to make this at seat service instead of cafeteria style. The day of our visit was quiet due to the weather and the service was quick and served up by a great gentlemen on the till whose name I do not remember, but he is truly an asset to the restaurant, as nothing was too much trouble and in my opinion went beyond the call of duty to satisfy us. However, on a busy day, I think this will be a very challenging service style, unless there is sufficient staff to make it work. I do hope this does work, as one part of the story is now getting better, in the quality of the food."

"I've known this pub/restaurant for your years, and the downfall of this establishment is nothing to do with COVID, its the management!! During and since COVID there's been a strong emphasis on booking, so I telephoned beforehand just to make sure for a midweek lunch... Yes highly recommend to book they said! Me thinking it was going to be busy. Turned up at the door and as intructed waitied to be seated. Hung around for about minutes, no one around, no one at the bar, no waitress on the floor, no manager, no customers to be precise! Finally a young girl appeared from the kitchen and sat us down. Food and drinks arrived OK and fairly quickly, but then other customers tuned up, hung around to be seated and again no staff to be seen. As we were seated by the door, we spoke and suggested to these customers to move on down the raad to the Bold Forester where the service and attention is much better. We must have turned away about people during the course of our lunch and the staff hadn't even noticed and had no idea! There was only the chef, one waiter and a manager on shift, and we were the only customers, so where and what the hell these staff were doing, God only knows? In its heyday, this place hinged upon its managers who'd pack this pub with walkers, cyclists and those wanting a lunch. This place is owned by Forest Inns and my message to the MD, Gary Baldwin, is buck up! and let the Lydhurst Park Hotel be a memorial and reminder, of what happens when you let complaincy take over and let things slip."
