"Excellent atmosphere and good food with great selection including some vegan options. Service was very friendly but very slow even towards the end when they were not busy anymore. We will definitely return and would recommend to others. Dogs are welcome in the Var area which for us is a big plus. There's a pirate ship in the garden for children."

Lovely staff who looked after us well, Sunday lunch ordered. Lamb was ok but over cooked veggies and gravy were lovely! Nut roast was dreadful!! Basically a potato and rice blob with a few nuts in! Shame as the staff were lovely and it was competitively priced

Very large portions of very fresh food. Only little quibble was that we had to wait quite a while for our main course. But since the first course was so abundant we were already quite full when our mains came. Great place with lots of character and very friendly and efficient service.

Had a very enjoyable meal here yesterday lunchtime. The food was excellent. The Staff were very friendly and Ed felt genuinely wanted to provide a good experience. The Waitress was excellent. Smiley and attentive without intrusion. We don’t live locally, have been before, and will definitely go back l.

"Popped in here a month ago to see what the place was like... Peaceful and cosy, there are lots of little knick knacks to look at and some are even for sale! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left. Overwhelmed by the choice of cakes on offer on the counter, I wished to try the afternoon tea, so we had to forego the beautiful creations for the three tiers of delights brought out on the stand. It was so delicious, I immediately booked for a table of 10 to celebrate my Mother 's 80th birthday. This fell last week, and we had the perfect afternoon with high tea for all. After glasses of non alcoholic prosecco for all, we were served the freshest, most well filled sandwiches (salmon and cream cheese, perfectly seasoned egg mayonnaise, and cream cheese, cucumber and chive ; just baked scones with cream and proper strawberry jam (not, as my Mum pointed out, red jam, but strawberry jam like they used to make, where you can actually taste the berries! ; and a selection of cakes, macarons, mini eclairs, and sherry glasses of a fruity mousse, topped with fresh fruit and gold lustre. The crowning glory was a cake so fresh it refused to stay in one slice as my Mum tried to portion it! (Please note, this was purchased/arranged as an extra. The tea was hot and plentiful and was refreshed over and over. The two gentlemen who man the shop are the sweetest most friendly chaps ever. As others have mentioned, they are both deaf, but this doesn 't hinder anything indeed I even made sure I leaned a few key words in BSL, which I 've loved and I was taught a few more whilst I was there as well. Everyone said it 's an absolute gem and I believe everyone has plans to return. I will definitely be going back, as I want to try more of those cakes!! Thank you for making a very special day absolutely perfect. An absolute credit to the village and surrounding area! <3 x"

"Went for a lovely Sunday morning walk ahead of lunch at the Barley Mow, following a circular route which starts and ends in the pub car park. By the time we got back, the car park was full so do book ahead. Anyway, onto lunch itself. As always, the staff at the Barley Mow gave us a warm welcome and were very attentive. We had booked a table for 5, so it was a little disappointing to be squeezed onto a table for four with an extra seat. There is a wide choice of roasts including Sirloin beef, stuffed pork and duo of lamb. I went for the beef which was delicious with a huge Yorkshire pudding on the side. Plenty of veg too including a creamy cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage which was amazing. Despite being quite full, we decided to go for dessert, but these were a bit of a let down after how good the main courses were. In fairness, the chocolate brownie did look very nice but the deconstructed lemon cheesecake was a disappointment. Served in a fluted brass cocktail glass, it was over half full of crushed ginger nut biscuits with only a tiny layer of creamy lemon topping. This made it surprisingly dry. And the bread and butter pudding was unlike any I've seen before (and not in a good way). The bread was thick and dry, absorbing none of the custard which looked to be more your standard yellow powdered variety, so acting more like a sandwich filling. The staff were very apologetic though and did agree it looked somewhat unusual so refunded that dessert. I would still definitely come back on the strength of the roasts though, but perhaps skip pudding!"

"We ate lunch here for Mother's Day and couldn't have been more disappointed. Having pre ordered lunch for 8 at their request we felt sure the service was going to be smooth and we would get lunch promptly. We sat down and had drinks orders taken and starters eventually arrived but it was then a very long wait for the main courses. For both the starters and main courses they had to take food with gluten in away and replace it with gluten free options for the two coeliacs in our family. The waitress said she was helping out and didn't know but we made it clear in our booking email that two people were gluten free and it is not good in a restaurant not to be aware of this. The main courses were very varied in quality. The three people who ordered steak found it tough and flavourless and the chips seemed to be frozen ones that had been cooked, barely. Some of the others found their food ok but nothing was amazing. I gave my steak to my dog!! To be fair the waitresses were kind and the manager came over to make amends and gave us 10% off our bill but I would rather have had nice food, on time and an enjoyable lunch out. The ice cream unbelievably was also inedible. My sister couldn't tell what flavour it was and said it was slimy. My daughter said while it was better than her lasagna she still didn't want to eat it. £200 for a meal like that for a special day out was not worth it. Even the first bill they brought us, we were about to pay and the manager took it away and said it was incorrect. He had put 6 adult meals on instead of 4 adults and 4 children. I would certainly never eat here again and would recommend that others avoid it for food. I will add to this that very very very rarely give a negative review and usually give places 5*s but this was awful even overlooking decor in places.."
