"where do I start? it would take too long to explain everything. eating was less than bog standard and expensive. jacket kartoffeln microwaves they couldn't even get the right. they were obviously short staff and should not run this day. 1 person behind the bar, a person in the kitchen and a room with tables that are booked to eat. there was no quality for the food they served or seasoned. I have booked a table for my older disabled parents, which we were pushed in a corner opposite the front door, not as expected in the main kitchen room, why I don't know how it seemed to be an ersatztisch in there. the door opening and closing all the time was too much to wear. the bardame was run off by her feet and could not really be in the position to act in an elaborate wise. it was a huge thing to bring my parents to lunch first place and be hit by it, was a bit too much we should have just left, but we tried to make the best of it. but it made me really bad as a host, which should have been a pleasant family dinner. I will never go there again"

Another fabulous meal, great service too. Impressed our friends who drove down to meet us. Thank you.

Please ensure that the cutlery and salt and pepper shakers are clean. I look forward to seeing the fire lit.

I made a reservation and received confirmation. However, when I arrived, I found a barrier blocking the parking lot with a sign that said, "Closed, reopening tomorrow."

The food was excellent but it was quite cold in the restaurant as they could not light the log fire, they did have a electric fan heater but was not strong enough and the service was quite slow but not the servers fault just short staffed

The food was fine but we found it really cold I had my coat over my legs to keep warm. One half of the pub had a fire on but the one on the dining room wasn’t lit it must have been cold as one of the servers had a scarf on. Only other thing to consider is it was tight fir parking . Lovely history to the place. Ver carta

Can’t recall any music playing but that suits us just fine. We come to talk to friends, not listen to someone else’s music choices. Fish pie was excellent. V pleasant young lady on the bar who took our order. Only quibble was the length of time the food took to arrive and you didn’t seem especially busy. Log fire a bonus! We will be back.

the fox and the hounds have a cozy, peaceful atmosphere without pretension and above all without intrusive music. when we visited, the service was friendly and knowledgeable. in terms of quantity and quality, eating in the did was very good and certainly a cut above the average. I therefore had no objection to waiting for the main course over an hour, although it was a pity that the 'while they wait' course of hummus also took over an hour to arrive! that's a little bang. I would recommend the "fox and hounds" to anyone who appreciates a delicious meal in a peaceful, old-world pub environment.

"Popped in here a month ago to see what the place was like... Peaceful and cosy, there are lots of little knick knacks to look at and some are even for sale! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left. Overwhelmed by the choice of cakes on offer on the counter, I wished to try the afternoon tea, so we had to forego the beautiful creations for the three tiers of delights brought out on the stand. It was so delicious, I immediately booked for a table of 10 to celebrate my Mother 's 80th birthday. This fell last week, and we had the perfect afternoon with high tea for all. After glasses of non alcoholic prosecco for all, we were served the freshest, most well filled sandwiches (salmon and cream cheese, perfectly seasoned egg mayonnaise, and cream cheese, cucumber and chive ; just baked scones with cream and proper strawberry jam (not, as my Mum pointed out, red jam, but strawberry jam like they used to make, where you can actually taste the berries! ; and a selection of cakes, macarons, mini eclairs, and sherry glasses of a fruity mousse, topped with fresh fruit and gold lustre. The crowning glory was a cake so fresh it refused to stay in one slice as my Mum tried to portion it! (Please note, this was purchased/arranged as an extra. The tea was hot and plentiful and was refreshed over and over. The two gentlemen who man the shop are the sweetest most friendly chaps ever. As others have mentioned, they are both deaf, but this doesn 't hinder anything indeed I even made sure I leaned a few key words in BSL, which I 've loved and I was taught a few more whilst I was there as well. Everyone said it 's an absolute gem and I believe everyone has plans to return. I will definitely be going back, as I want to try more of those cakes!! Thank you for making a very special day absolutely perfect. An absolute credit to the village and surrounding area! <3 x"

"Went for a lovely Sunday morning walk ahead of lunch at the Barley Mow, following a circular route which starts and ends in the pub car park. By the time we got back, the car park was full so do book ahead. Anyway, onto lunch itself. As always, the staff at the Barley Mow gave us a warm welcome and were very attentive. We had booked a table for 5, so it was a little disappointing to be squeezed onto a table for four with an extra seat. There is a wide choice of roasts including Sirloin beef, stuffed pork and duo of lamb. I went for the beef which was delicious with a huge Yorkshire pudding on the side. Plenty of veg too including a creamy cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage which was amazing. Despite being quite full, we decided to go for dessert, but these were a bit of a let down after how good the main courses were. In fairness, the chocolate brownie did look very nice but the deconstructed lemon cheesecake was a disappointment. Served in a fluted brass cocktail glass, it was over half full of crushed ginger nut biscuits with only a tiny layer of creamy lemon topping. This made it surprisingly dry. And the bread and butter pudding was unlike any I've seen before (and not in a good way). The bread was thick and dry, absorbing none of the custard which looked to be more your standard yellow powdered variety, so acting more like a sandwich filling. The staff were very apologetic though and did agree it looked somewhat unusual so refunded that dessert. I would still definitely come back on the strength of the roasts though, but perhaps skip pudding!"
