"Sunday lunch with family. Warm friendly atmosphere. Delicious, wholesome, well cooked food in comfortable surroundings. If you are looking for a traditional, small village pub that serves a great roast on a Sunday, you need look no further. Following several drinks in the bar our...table in the small dining room was perfectly positioned in the bay window with views over the adjoining village road and fields beyond. Sticking with tradition, starters of Leek Potato soup, Pate and Prawn Cocktail were followed by Roast Pork and Roast Beef. Ample portions of meat and gravy accompanied by lovely roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire puddings and a wide selection of vegetables. All perfectly cooked and served by attentive, helpful but not intrusive staff. Stuffed, we all reluctantly declined the enticing sweet menu that included a number of traditional favourites. With a bottle of wine and drinks from the bar the meal costed out at £25 pp. All agreed that this was good value for what we had had........a lovely unhurried, traditional Sunday lunch in a truly rural setting. We will certainly be back for more in the not to distant future."

Enjoyed a homemade leek and potato soup with crusty bread when calling in as part of a prearranged group walking lunch. Good service. Pleasant seating area outside for a fine day.

Popped here for Friday lunchtime. Small venue but boy did it deliver. I had 8oz Sirloin with Stilton sauce. Partner had Chicken Mississippi with Southern Comfort and mushroom sauce. Faultless and this is with cover managers as owners on hols. Desert was Sticky toffee pudding...and so light and fluffy and not over sweet. 10/10

What a truly fantastic place! Very warm and friendly staff, great atmosphere and open fire in the bar. Food was absolutely delicious, cannot fault anything. This is by far the best Sunday lunch I've had, cooked to perfection and without frills. The Yorkshire puddings were...huge, the meat melted in your mouth and a good selection of veg. Well worth a visit!

"I visited my daughter and son-in-law last week and on my request they had booked a table for us on black horse on Saturday night at 1 o'clock. we arrived shortly before the pm and all four of us stood in the bar where two were served. it wasn't busy. no one told us anything until the bar was clear and then one of the ladies looked at me and I said we booked a table in my name of my daughter and she saw the bookings and said oh yes, we had table assigned and pointed into another room. there was no greeting no smiling, so we met our way to the table and sat there. there were no menus on the table, so I stood up to find some and someone only made their way from the other room in the direction of our table. we ordered drinks that were in themselves a task, as they had no free or dietary limmonade, so I had to go to the end for a gin with slimline tonic. then we ordered four different meal times. I ordered a vegetarian curry in naanbrot and when it finally came, I was so disappointed because the naanbrot was burned and the curry was cold on the outside, so I asked them to take it back. the waitress asked if I wanted to order something else and I went back. my daughter then shared some of her meals with me, who were chicken pupils. they were coated in a teig that was extremely fat. the menu does not seem to come out of any meal with fresh vegetables, everything seemed to come with chips and draughts, even the Steak-Mahl came only with chips and draughts, no mushrooms, tomatoes, wobble rings or something. I wasn't impressed. for a pub that wants good reviews, I think they have lost the property. the customer service is everything and fresh vegetables is essential. I'm sorry to be the bearer worse, but we won't come back."
