"Service was not great. Although staff were pleasant, service was very slow, very expensive for what we got, food was nice enough but no side plates for the sharing starter so you just have to get it from plate to mouth using your hand to avoid it going down your top. No steak knives for the steak, and we had to ask for salt and condiments. Drinks there was NO white wine!! Apart from a couple of glasses left in a bottle that had gone a bit rank, they had no other white wine apparently because of a wedding the previous night. We ordered a glass of blackcurrant juice for our daughter and it tasted old and nasty and they charged £2!!! Most places charge 20p for cordial! Also we ordered a child 's ice cream it said 'selection of flavours ' but we weren 't asked which. When it came out, it was coffee flavour and raspberry flavour with bits. If anyone has a picky child like mine, there 's no chance, vanilla would have done! We asked if they had anything different and they didn 't. We waited an age between courses and to get the bill. All in all... Disappointing..."

Very slow service, despite not being busy. Starter way too oily, main ok, dessert the best part. Ver carta

I couldn't get through to anyone to reserve a table! I was on hold for 10 minutes, just listening to a recorded message. Overall, I rate it 0/10. Meal type: Other, Food: 1, Atmosphere: 1.

The food is merely mediocre, and the service is excruciatingly slow. If I hadn’t asked someone for assistance at the end, I probably would still be waiting. Food: 1/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 1/5 Ver carta

Great menu, good wine list and very tasty food. Enter your car reg into a machine at Holiday Inn reception and you don’t have to pay for parking. All 4 of us enjoyed our meal, carbonara with extra chicken, pizza, risotto and potato skins, with a bottle of rose. Under £80 the lot. Would recommend this as a good meal stop on the A1. Food service was good enough, but the parking fine a week later was very annoying, though I called the hotel reception and they cancelled the charge. Apparently you have to register the car at the hotel reception when you go in to the restaurant. Very unexpected, not something either of us thought to look for. Locally, at restaurant where the parking is chargeable they ask for your registration number so those eating there don’t get charged. Surely Fratellos could do the same? It’s only a wee simple question to ask that could save lots of stress an unpleasant experience for travellers. We noticed others had been caught out the same way, so although there is apparently some signage, it is obv...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
