Giovanni’s was opened during the lockdown supplying home cooked Italian dishes, basic menu for obvious reasons at this time, but food was excellent.

Fantastic food and a fantastic experience eating local produce cooked to an incredibly high and tasty standard. If you can get a table book it and treat yourselves. Ver carta

Last weekend we took advantage of their take away service and I have to say everything was superb. Great food, efficient service and excellent prices. Couldn't have asked for more.

This restaurant is a pure delight! Beautiful food, friendly staff, great atmosphere! My husband had the fillet steak with pepper sauce and he says it was the best steak he has ever had.

Trio of brushetta as a starter, salmon, tomato and ham. Both had steak cooked perfectly to our preference. Not the first time we've visited he won't be the last. Try having breakfast some time, it will make a great start to the day. Ver carta

Definitely the most delicious and fresh food in Penicuik. The atmosphere is always good and the service is on point every time I visit. I recommend asking about the specials because they are usually very nice. Highly recommended for couples and groups.

Travelling to Peebles we decided to stop for lunch in Penicuik. Not much on offer locally but I think we found the best there was. This Bistro caters to regulars and that tells you the food was good as the customers certainly came back often. We both had the lunch special of bacon and vegetable quiche. Very nice. The Bistro is not licenced but you can bring in your own wine. The waitress offered to go next door to the pub to get me a small bottle of wine. That shows you how helpful and friendly the staff are. The other meals we saw looked excellent.

Have been coming to Giovanni’s for years as a family. But the last few visits have been very disappointing. Came a month or so ago and found the service very poor nobody checking whether meal was okay or if we needed anything else. Brushed this off as a bad day for staff. Returned last week and won’t be returning. Ordered a child’s fish goujons for an elderly relative and these arrived so overcooked they were inedible. We sat with empty plates for 25 minutes before these were cleared and I said to the waitress about them being over cooked and she rather rudely said I should have said something and the chef ‘just makes them crispy’.
