"First the plus point - the cooking is quite good if you venture beyond the items on menu front pages (in German) and order from the Chinese menu. In my opinion it is the best Chinese place in town in terms of food quality - an observation which proves once more that with Chinese restaurants the standard cultural framework of the educated middle class does not work. Which person with a sane mind would enter a restaurant with the idiotic name 'Gourmet Temple' -- and the Chinese name of the place ('The Wealth Comes to the House' or so) sounds equally suspicious. Also the unreconstructed shiny-tacky decoration and the gigantic aquarium full of tired fish do not instil confidence that this should be the place to go. But the problem lies elsewhere. The place is exceedingly popular with Chinese and Korean tourist groups who go there to rotate through their set meals at a rate of two groups per hour and table. This consumes most of the resources of the service and possibly also of the kitchen, with the result that the service is horrible and the food, while good, takes forever to be served. We had a small child with us. Dont go anywhere with a two-year-old where you have to wait one hour before even the rice is put on the table. A particularly nice touch of the service was that they shoved a few plates on front of us after 50 minutes or so and then immediately snatched them away with a muttered 'sorry' - they were intended for another table, or so it seems.Nevertheless the food was good once it arrived - at a time when, at the neighboring table, tourist group #3 were just taking their seats. So maybe we will go there again on some rainy November evening when tourists are scarce, hoping that by then the service will be less overloaded and the cooking stilll OK. I am not optimistic however - the rate of quality attrition in Chinese restaurants is often proportional to the number of customers. If that rule of thumb holds also for the Gourmet temple, it might go downhill at record pace...."
