This restaurant is unclean, with wooden forks and napkins scattered all over the floor and no one bothering to clean them up. A charge of 60 pence is added for mayonnaise or ketchup on the kids' menu, which is disappointing. The staff is not very friendly, and I will not be returning. Ver carta

The worst fish and chips I have ever eaten, the worst service too. Miserable, unfriendly staff and disgusting food, even the mushy peas were awful and 60p for a sachet of sauce !!!! Odd place planned to visit on a Tuesday for lunch and was waiting outside at 11:55 for a midday opening. Once 12 hit, the doors remained closed with no lights on. Opened the door to check and asked if it was open, woman behind the counter looked as if I'd just crashed landed through the window for asking, despite it looking still closed. However, though better of it as floor and tables looked filthy.....and didn't fancy eating in a dark restaurant. Nip down to the Ship Inn for some great food instead.

Visited swanage over the weekend for folk festival. Popped in yesterday 10/9/23. First of all, there is a member of staff that needs sacking. He was working yesterday afternoon around 5pm, his attitude was dreadful. It was at points hilarious to watch because it was completely outrageous to act that way in a customer based role. Secondly, my ‘pregnant’ wife has now come down with food poisoning after eating the chicken chunks meal. She had eaten all of them until the last one which was still slightly pink. Based on what she ate over the weekend this is the only high risk item, so has really ended our weekend horribly! Ver carta

Ordered 3 medium haddock and two large chips. Got two barely acceptable haddock and another half the size, so small. And combining the chips made what I would describe as medium chips. Sent the small haddock back as the only English speaking person, possibly in some sort of authority position he should not be in, insisted all pieces of fish fell within the company weight guidelines. He chucked it in a bin and supposedly did a refund only to find out later he'd charged us again. Fraud case raised with card company. Don't go near, best chippy is near pier. I will make clear that Harlees Poole and Herston have always been brilliant.

I was excited for a pleasant lunch during a day trip to Swanage. Unfortunately, the table was sticky and not cleaned. The food was well-cooked and made to order, but it was served with flimsy wooden cutlery that caused part of the meal to end up on the floor. While the concept of using wooden disposables is good, better quality is needed as they were not sturdy enough. Also, serving them in a plastic dish was not ideal. They do not accept cash and it seems like the restaurant is more focused on reducing work effort rather than protecting the environment. I would not dine here again. I want to start off with the fact that I have been visiting family in Swanage for over 30 years and Harlees has always had amazing food and such an outstanding reputation. However I am In complete shock at the service I have just received from a particular member of staff. He had been incredibly rude to myself and every other customer that walked in the door, with the excuse that they were ‘severely understaffed’. The food arrived quickly but we received a comically small piece of fish which I thought was an honest mistake on their part. After being refused an exchange I requested a refund.
