"Good quality home baking, soup and proper toasted sandwiches. If the weather is kind it is lovely to sit in the garden among the fuchsia bushes.Service is friendly. The only issue is with the 'tradition ' that seems to have developed on Iona (and much of Mull) where businesses close down completely at the end of the season . Visitors to Scotland no longer restrict themselves to the traditional season in the same way as a few years ago, so although visitor numbers are obviously higher in the Spring and Summer, they do not disappear come October. Coach loads of tourists still arrive at Ffionnphort every day and the vast majority take the ferry over to Iona.It is a shame that visitors to somewhere as special as Iona are faced with closed businesses from as early as mid-October.If you visit between Easter and October, it 's well worth a visit for a hot drink and cake on your way to or from the abbey."

On a grey day on Iona we were made very welcome here, for a mid-morning coffee. Would definitely return.

NO SCONES! nice cup of tea though and a biscuit. Would have sat outside if it wasn't full of midges at the time.

We ate indoors, due to the windy conditions, but it was pretty outside. The Elderflower Lemonade was quite delicious. The freshly-made sandwiches were quite tasty.

Called The Rookery Café it’s a lovely cozy place, has a beautiful garden. The owner is very welcoming. Delicious homemade cakes and coffee and serves light lunches. Ver carta

We had a wonderful dining experience here. There were great gluten free options available, although the soup was a bit too peppery for my taste. The staff was very friendly.

An absolutely brilliant place to sit down and enjoy a break on the way to the abbey. Now called the Rookery café, sitting in the garden was very special as were the freshly baked scones!

The cozy cafe seemed like a welcoming escape from the chilly rain. We ordered some cake and coffee, and they happily prepared a decaf for me using a French press. The desserts and coffee were delicious, the staff was friendly, and the other customers were also warm and welcoming. Since all the tables were taken, a kind patron invited us to join her, and we all enjoyed chatting about Iona. It was a delightful refuge on a rainy day!

Wow, what a pleasant surprise! We visited a charming restaurant and had some delicious homemade soup. I ordered a cheese salad and was pleasantly surprised by the tasty Kintyre cheese, roasted potatoes, and homemade rhubarb jelly. The owner was delightful and even offered to share the salad recipe with me. The atmosphere at the rookery was perfect, with the beautiful cawing of birds adding to the experience. My daughter enjoyed an Easter egg hunt the next day and the owner was incredibly helpful, even giving her a free hot chocolate to warm up. She was also very patient with demanding tourists. I can't wait to go back and enjoy the wonderful birds and delicious rhubarb jelly again. Thank you...

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
