"The restaurant experience was very disappointing. The staff were not friendly and did not provide good value for the money. When I walked in and approached the counter, three staff members watched me but continued to chat amongst themselves. Eventually, they acknowledged me and I ordered a Sausage sandwich for take away since they didn't offer rolls. I paid £7 for essentially two sausages between two slices of bread, which were lukewarm. The coffees were too hot and bitter. Additionally, I observed a customer with a menu waiting to place an order as no one had attended to her table. Despite having enough staff, they seemed more interested in talking to each other rather than serving customers. Overall, it was a terrible experience and I felt like I was ripped off. I expected more for the £7 I paid."

Busy café especially lunchtime on Saturdays. Very pleasant staff. Large helpings with lovely side salad. Good food.

I was so disappointed with the Service and after such a long wait for our food it came served to us cold, really bad, dirty cutlery wasn't polished, tea not washed properly overall I wouldn't recommend this place to have lunch.

This establishment used to be one of the great places to dine in Holywood, but have to say it has really gone downhill. The limited menu wasn't great, drinks arrived luke warm , and the wait for food was really long, Service wasn't that great either .

Went for Sunday morning breakfast. Waitress v helpful. I ordered tea and croissant. Croissant very obviously shop bought and cold, quite greasy. My husband had Belgium waffles- so much sugar overload with synthetic cream. Don’t think we will be back. Decor however is good, although service s l o w. Ver carta

My friend and I stopped by on a Tuesday while visiting Holywood. We ordered the sourdough bread with poached eggs and a small pot of tea each. When the waitress brought our plates, I was shocked to see just one small slice of sourdough bread with a poached egg. It cost £9 for the dish and £2.80 for the tea. We were very disappointed and will not be returning. It felt like a scam.

Extremely slow, staff are very poor and don’t provide good service. Its a very noisy place no need for such loud music blasting above the noise of customers. The staff walk through you even though you’re standing behind other customers as it is so busy this was just ignorant and shouldn’t happen. Not even an excuse me. Food was just okay, over priced for how basic it is. I Won’t return and I don’t recommend. There is a lot better elsewhere.

Arrived and got sat at a booth. Having looked at the menu we knew what we wanted, we had to go to the till as there was an internet problem, I then got ignored by the staff standing at the till, they turned and saw me and then went back to their conversation, the chef happened to be getting something out the front, and asked was I alright and that’s when the waitress asked what I wanted, sadly really poor service here. When the food came it was very tasteless and rock hard bacon. Sadly nobody came to check on us which is a really important part of service. The good point is that the coffees are still the best in holywood! Don’t change that! Ver carta

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant this morning. I had a very unpleasant experience that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. My breakfast and coffee were taken away while I was in the toilet, even though I had left my backpack and food on the table. When I asked the staff about it, they said they thought I had left because they didn't see my backpack. I was charged the full bill of GBP 13, even though I couldn't finish my breakfast because of their mistake. The staff's behavior was unprofessional and disrespectful, and their actions did not meet the standard of customer service. The only compensation offered was a coffee, which did not make up for the inconvenience cause...

We arrived early looking for a little breakfast plus coffee. We ordered a ham and cheddar toastie each plus 1 tea and 1 latte. The toasties arrived after a bit of a wait they weren’t yet terribly busy and the hot drinks were nowhere to be seen. The toasties were £9 each and for that we got 2 rounds of bread, a slice of ham and a slice of cheese. No side salad/garnish/offer of sauces… nothing! It was dry to say the least… add tasteless, and overdone. The hot drinks arrived after we had finished our food with no word of an apology or explanation. The eventual bill was £24. Shockingly overpriced. Not once was I asked how was your food etc etc… hence I’m here publishing my opinion. Don’t bother...

"Tl;dr this chef and this team are on their way to a Michelin star, so get a reservation while you can. We visited here Saturday 29, where we enjoyed the tasting menu by current chef John Hollywood. Their tasting menu is averagely priced, comparable to Dublin’s Bastible, with 6 courses actual, and plenty of wine. Aside from the setup, nothing else is average. The staff at Boat House are second to none. The atmosphere is similar to Hof van Cleve, with chirpy, witty staff happily serving customers and following the mood of the table. Their sommelier and wine pairing is particularly special, with each bottle subverting the trend, unexpected, but without compromising on quality (see: Bastible cannot figure out wine). Their sommelier is a wine nerd who’s happy to go into as much depth as you want, but you feed off the passion between courses, which is a really great dynamic between the staff and the table this is rare, usually only achieved at top star restaurants. I’ve never found this in the island of Ireland. The food itself is the perfect mix of foraged from land and sea, each dish testing and surprising you, but with some classics mixed in (beef Barolo your reward for trusting the chef). On the whole, the menu seems designed to subvert comfort you in equal measure, and succeeds with every course. You won’t find the same level of experimentation from many of the Italian tasting menus on the circuit, but that comes with the assurances of consistent quality and a journey that’ll never let you down, where subversive wine pairings inject a level of exciting chaos without risking the food. Between the atmosphere, staff, and chemistry at the table in the kitchen, a trip to Boat House can be held in the same regard as some of the world’s top Michelin star restaurants. They’re on the way. They have the ingredients, whether you know it or not. Better start those birthday reservations now."
