"You will find Hostaria Borromei hidden among the ancient stone streets of Milan about a 15 minute walk west of the Duomo. Allow some time for getting lost since the streets frequently change names at intersections. The dinner time clientele included local businessmen wearing handsome suits and adventurous tourists. They had closed the lid the interior garden space because of the rainy weather which made the space less special. This is a small family run restaurant with both traditional Milanese dishes and more modern takes on the classics. Our appetizer of stuffed zuchini flowers was disappointing. Fried in a thick and heavy batter with an overpowering anchovy flavor in the mozzarella stuffing. Everything else was exceptional. The cottolete di vitelle was a bone-in veal rib steak pounded thin and bigger than the serving plate. Delicately fried crisp, light, and tender: this was my wife's favorite meal in Milan. Better than the schnitzel in Vienna I also chose a classic: ossobuco with saffron rice. Tender braised veal shank in a tomato/onion sauce with a side of bright yellow saffron rice. Comfort food to the max. But the big surprise was the side dish of spinach. I've never had anything with such flavor and texture. Like a dense souffle made with garlic and a surprising amount of red pepper flakes. This is all technique using simple ingredients: Bravo in cucina! An extensive wine list and we tried an unusual local Nebbiolo from Lombardy instead of the more famous one from Piedmonte."

We went in because it was a wet night and we were in the hotel Vecchia next door. Very convenient and nice food but quite pricey for the level

OMG better than brilliant. This is a popular restaurant in Milan. The deep fried flowers, the Risotto and everything we ate. From this world!!!!

This is definitely a seafood place with a wide range of shellfish and fresh whole fish. Good wine list. My wife had the pasa with clams and liked it very much.

Sadly, this wonderful restaurant closed. The Covid situation was too much. Too bad—it was one of our favorites—the food was great and the service was friend,y and kind. Sad to see it go.

I booked a Friday night solo trip. I got one of those tables that the servers have to squeeze by. But I certainly understand: the place is popular with the local Milanesi. The food is the reason why. I had busiati and beef cheeks both excellent. I could see the cameriere carving some prosciutto for the table, wish I'd had that. I'd go back.

My wife and I ate here for an evening meal. The waiter spoke English well and offered suggestions for various courses of the meal, as well as wine. We enjoyed his recommendations of local dishes and wine plus chef specialties. As we pondered our menu selections, the waiter brought us a handful of the fresh mushrooms to inspect and these were then incorporated in a risotto dish as well as served with the beef fillet.

This little place is attractive on a little winding street. The food was all right, but there was not a lot on the menu. They had a wine list, but no wine by the glass listed. They did have it, though, but didn't tell us the price when we ordered. The waitstaff was quite unfriendly and acted as if they didn't care. they spent most of their time chatting with their friends who were dining there. I would not choose to return.
