"This restaurant is an extension of the Burg Hotel, just across the street. We arrived in the evening and was given a recommendation to the restaurant by the elderly gentleman who mans the reception desk. So we went. I thought we were getting an ordinary...garden salad with fried mushrooms on top, but once I started serving portions for my husband and myself, I noticed that at the bottom of the bowl were shredded carrots. Interesting, okay, I thought. Then towards the bottom middle, we had shredded white vegetables. Even more interesting. Then towards the other side on the bottom were shredded purple cabbage. All these shredded vegetables underneath our salad were mildly seasoned and worked to make the salad so very tasty. My pork schnitzel was the best I’ve had in Germany and actually, it was the best dinner I’ve had in Germany. The schnitzel was tender and juicy with a crispy exterior, all covered in a mushroom sauce. I had apple fritters with ice cream for dessert and I am so glad I decided not to share. So delicious, the contrasting of hot deep fried fritter with the cold scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with whipped cream. So decadent and delicious, but I’m on vacation! The staff were efficient and very welcoming, which rounded out a perfect meal. What a wonderfully lucky find."

There are a lot of choices in the town. Gartenpalais is nothing special but perfectly serviceable fore a quiet meal off of the main drag. You can get a full dinner for 2 with cocktails for < 40 euro.

We are staying at the hotel, as well, which is lovely. Decided to eat at the restaurant as it was dinner time when we arrived. I’m glad that we did. The food was excellent. The service and atmosphere was also excellent. I highly recommend.

We traveled with our family throughout Europe, but the lodging here tops them all. We stayed in a luxurious villa, the prior family residence of the hotel's owner. It was beyond beautiful and perfect for our family. A five-star rating is not adequate for this lovely home and for the warm service we were given. Ver carta

If you are staying in Rothenburg for the holiday's (i.e Christmas) I would highly recommend emailing the hotel/restaurant and making a reservation. My friend and I went there for Christmas Eve and enjoyed a delicious set menu and piano concert. There is a cute little...garden out front that was so fun to see decorated for Christmas. We stayed at the Burg Hotel and it was great being so close to the restaurant.

We arrived here just by chance, the person at the service was very kind so we stayed even thought i got the impression that the restaurant was a bit smelly. I got my tea with white water! It was full of Kalk, i had to tell him to change it. The salad with sparagous was really a joke. It was written big salad and i got half of the plate with one sparagous in little pices on the top! It didn't even have a salad sauce. The apple strudel was overcooked. It seems it was warmed up several times which means it was not fresh at all. I would stay away from this restaurant.
