"I received a recommendation from a shopkeeper in Hartington that instead of paying for parking at the NP carpark, I could enjoy tea and cakes at the tearoom and park for free. Sure enough, there was a sign that said "spend a penny with me and park for free"! I bought a takeaway cup of tea for my thermos and headed off along the Manifold Trail, knowing I was welcome to park for as long as I liked. After three hours of walking, I treated myself to a delicious slice of Banana and Pistachio cake and a hot chocolate (from a machine, but still good). There was also a small gift shop with postcards and local crafts to browse through. The service was friendly, and I found it to be a great deal to be able to park for free in exchange for a drink and snack that I would have bought anyway. Note: Parking is free with purchase from the tearoom."

Lovely tea room located at the beginning or end of a scenic walk, as well as in the quaint information room within the historic railway station building.

Fantastic café with amazing staff and delicious food. This is our go-to spot whenever we are exploring the Peak District on our bikes. The location is perfect for a pit stop.

The restaurant has a very welcoming staff and the interior is cozy and spacious. There are also plenty of tables outside. It is located very close to the Manifold Walk. Parking is free if you use the cafe. Dining in offers a variety of meal options at an affordable price range of £1-10 per person.

Pleasant tea room with internal and external seating. Hot and cold snacks and an excellent range of cake. In a new building that is a replica of the narrow-gauge engine shed that was there before. Also good parking and starting point for a walk along the disused railway to the next cafe at Wetton mill.

After stumbling upon it on Google, we were thrilled with our experience at this restaurant. The Victoria sponge was truly delicious, and the fruit salad was refreshing with a crispy topping. The restaurant was well-designed and offered a variety of tempting items for purchase. Anyone visiting wouldn't regret stopping in.

This quaint restaurant offers a wide range of options, from decadent cakes and delicious coffee to camping supplies and handmade wooden crafts for sale. They also provided ample parking for their customers. The staff was kind enough to allow us to park for the entire duration of our visit in exchange for purchasing a cake. In terms of accessibility, it seems that the entrance is on a flat level, making it wheelchair-friendly. Additionally, both nearby restrooms are also accessible. The service for dining in was excellent.

We ordered sausage and egg sandwiches along with some coffee at this restaurant. The coffee was mediocre, not terrible. However, I could not finish the sandwich as the sausage was of poor quality and tasted greasy and stale. The bread lacked butter and we were not given any sauce. The restaurant was freezing cold due to its large corrugated iron structure, making it feel like eating in a barn. We traveled to the Hulme end of the Manifold Way specifically for this cafe, only to be disappointed and feel like we wasted our time and petrol.

I gave this restaurant three stars because the cake looked nice. On Saturday, we went to buy a bottle of water at the beginning of our walk to Thor's Cave. We hadn't reached the destination yet and asked the young girl at the counter how far away the cave was. She responded bluntly, pointing to a map on the wall behind her without a smile, indicating that the map would show the distance. We had planned to stop back at the café for tea and cake on our way back, but instead decided to visit Wetton Mill Tearoom. The staff at Wetton Mill Tearoom was lovely.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
