"Favourite is not always the same as 'the best regarded ' or the grandest. Favourite for me, covers places that we 've loved, often smaller, perhaps less well known restaurants. They all have excellent cuisine (some have Michelin stars) and can represent superb value for money. Many of these restaurants are highly regarded in Spain but maybe unfairly overlooked by foreign food tourists and don 't appear on the 50 Best Awards. In most cases they 're well underrated but are at the top of our favourite lists.1. Aponiente, El Puerto de Santa Maria near Cádiz.I never tire of championing this revolutionary seafood restaurant. If you google it, there are few English reviews outside of mine. It 's strange as chef Ángel León is a TV star over there. In our opinion it should be regarded as amongst the finest in Spain and the world. A third Michelin star will most definitely help with that should that be forthcoming. It should be at the top of your 'to eat ' list along with the likes of DiverXo and El Celler de Can Roca.. They are moving to larger premises in September so we hope to return again."

Double boiled lamb is phenomenal; easily the best on the menu!

Great Chefs, Great Causes at Ibérica, Manchester. I had the pleasure to be invited along to the 'World 's Best Chefs ' press launch at Ibérica a couple of weeks ago and what I experienced was fantastic.

we had four meal times on Saturday night, we were warmly welcomed at the door and while we waited for one of our party to have a drink at the bar, we have dined up where the service was excellent, the tapas dishes were amazing, we had a wide and varied selection of brot and olive oil to black rice, lamb, huh, calamari, potatas bravo all were so! we all enjoyed it so much, and although we are not local, we would return again.

only table available was for bar snacks that we happily accepted. as bar snacks go the choice was good and they were quite delicious. the personal seemed to be undermined. we waited twice for a drink. waited for the bill a long time asked twice. table water was warm, it is not really rocket science to put ice into it. no season on the table I thought standard so they don't have to ask. everything I would go back yes! decor was beautiful and the dame that served us made the experience worth while very knowledgeable and helpful. I had caught her name to give her something deserved praise.

In all my trips to Manchester I've somehow never noticed Iberica...ridiculous I know. After seeing the pics of the octopus it seemed only fair we go and enjoy this for ourselves. The decor is nice and modern, and as our table wasn't ready, we were sat at the bar. I had a delicious cava sangria. The menu has a lot of choice, including various cheeses and hams. We went for a mix up to share-chorizo lollipops, octopus, calamari, pork sliders and ham. I can't tell you how good those chorizo lollipops are...and the octopus was as good in real life. All washed down with a hefty pitcher of sangria...job done.

we were before, but that was one of them, and they had squeezed us in because we had not booked. this time booked, came 30 minutes early, no problem and nice table top. fabulous service, not know its name, but very good. one of the courts was very slow to get out, old after the other tapas. what wait (two boiled lamb) and was thrown bill without asking, but we would have been happy to pay for it. only on the bottom is the service fee added in the bill, regardless of the table size. Moreover, the toilets are crazy - the mirrors are very disturbing and the sex labels are almost unreadable, so it is really unclear where to go.

It’s not everyday you get the chance to eat dishes from several of the world’s best chefs in the same place at the same time. But a few weeks ago I did exactly that after being invited to the press launch of ‘Great Chefs, Great Causes’ at Ibérica in Spinningfields. Of course, Albert Adrià and Joan Roca of El Celler de Can Roca didn’t rock up in Manchester to cook for us personally. But along with 12 other chefs from the World’s 50 Best Restaurants they each provided a signature recipe which will be available on a rotating basis from Ibérica until 6th September, with profits shared amongst the chef’s chosen charities. After a couple of drinks at the bar we were seated upstairs and the first d...

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."

"I've been to a couple of different Dishoom branches a few times and have never been disappointed by the breakfast options. The sausage naan roll is excellent. A couple of really tasty vegan sausages with some melted vegan cheese all wrapped up in a lovely soft naan and served with some sort of sweet chilli dipping sauce. My go to now is usually the vegan Bombay. It's a good hearty breakfast plate with... a couple of the same well seasoned vegan sausages. Some vegan tofu akuri a nicely spiced tofu scramble. Some very well cooked mushroom slices (that are maybe a wee bit under seasoned). The baked beans are really nicely spiced, elevating them far beyond the standard sweet sauce fare that's the usual. A few slices of well flavoured black pudding (that could be fried to being a bit crispier). A cooked tomato which is a bit dull, I've never been keen on tomatoes on my breakfast plate and this once has not changed my mind. It could do with some more charring and maybe some spicing. To help you mop everything up, the whole thing is served with a couple of soft bread buns that have been nicely toasted. I usually top the whole thing off with some chocolate chai with oat milk you get free refills for your chai. Unfortunately, it isn't wheelchair accessible. There are stairs up into the restaurant and various small flights of stairs to get to different parts of the restaurant. Updated from previous review on 2024 03 25"
