"In the evening we had an appointment at Opernhaus Düsseldorf. Gift from the brethren. Before we wanted to have dinner, the restaurant should have opened before 17.00. A Düsseldorf visit without a Schumacher is only half as beautiful. We usually go to the motherhouse of the Schumacher in Oststraße. This time I reserved in the old town, because only a few meters further is the opera house. I reserved well 2 weeks before by phone for 17.00 and still thought for the early time a reservation is certainly unnecessary!? It's far missing! Carnival time, Friday evening event, game of Fortuna Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorfer EC. At noon it was still cozy in the old town, now it was full of breaks, the way to the entrance door was difficult, filled inside to the last place. From “good that is reserved” to “whether this was a good idea here tonight?” thoughts went through my head. But as always in the Schumacher: Here are absolute professionals at work! I've never seen anything like that. The Köbes welcomes us, I call the reservation and he signals: Please come along! It's so loud, you don't have to yell at the guests. We follow flott through the dense brewhouse spaces, really all tables occupied. At the other end a somewhat divided room with 4 large and a small table and... empty and quiet! The Köbes indicated that this was a closed company from 19.00. We wanted to be ready at 7:00. Perfect. My brother arrived shortly after us, directly from the office. Another employee brought him to us immediately without asking for the reservation. Either the Lords are clairvoyers or my brother and I look more like I thought. The first Schumacher Alt, 0.25 l € 2.10 came immediately and as always perfectly tempered. The best old man! Of course, it didn't stay with an old man. Because in Düsseldorf you only have to order the first old, the last old one then determines the guest. This works smoothly and without waiting. The menu has hardly changed here in recent years, but it fits. German, regional Bauhaus cuisine. Interchangeable from “Halwe Hahn” (Bauernkäse) to haxe, fish, salads. Everyone's gonna be here. For us three, the Düsseldorfer Pillekuchen with apple wort, black bread and butter € 12,00 is the favorite dish. But also the mussels and rubbing cakes irritated. My husband and I have been looking forward to the pill cake for days and ordered it. My brother wanted to taste the Schumacher speciality of fresh pork haxe with apple cabbage and homemade semmel knödeln € 17.50. Our place was really a hit. We sat pleasantly quiet, but still had the rainy drive full in sight. It was really fun to see with which kind routine the service table for table satisfied. I'd like to see the drive in the kitchen here! What we're talking about. Our food was served as always, simultaneously and hot. You wished a good appetite, and it started! The pellet cake is one of the numerous modifications of crispy baked and rasped potatoes. Probably every region has its speciality here. Dübbekuchen, Schales, Reibekuchen, Döppekooche... the list is long. The pill cake is plate-sized and thinner than duvet cake and without bacon (currently there is such a specimen in our oven). We also wished a “good appetite”. The pill cake, also here on the Bolkerstraße, as it should be: crispy outside, cooked inside and juicy. The apple wort, as a sweet spread, fits perfectly with the hearty potato roasting (at home there was always sugar beet syrup). If you sound comfortable, you just have to try. The haxe! That's what Haxe must be! The crust so crispy, it was almost impossible to cut. And the flesh fell out. With the fork my brother plucked the bone meat and I asked myself: “What is the whole Pulled Pork vase.” Here it is!” I tried and was really excited! Pigshaxe, semmelknödel, apple red cabbage I don't give the red cabbage a “freshly prepared” taste it was good. The Semmelknödel as well, but they were quite firm. I like it if they're a little looser. But it wasn't my food either. But: I was almost a little envious. Sometimes it just has to be deculent! The service throughout the evening perfectly. Shortly after serving, the question was not whether everything tasted. ****! Very good! And then another fresh old one. Anyone who wants to “no” has bad cards, here only professionals have a chance and this pays off for home and guest. The rooms of the brewhouse are all on the ground floor. However, the rooms are partly divided with a few steps. The toilets are absolutely impeccable. Toilet woman is a really stupid profession. But the hygiene officers, probably African descent, not only provided for cleanliness and order, but also for good (Karnevals) mood before the localities! You don't have to wait for numbers. We were done on time before the other company arrived. A friendly adoption and: We will always like to come again! Finally. Our pill cake is ready."
