"Walked in and straight away felt like I shouldn’t have. Me and my girlfriend had decided it looked like a nice pub from the outside so I suggested we gave it a go and had some lunch. When we walked in, we went up to the bar too order two drinks, firstly their poor and uninspired choice of beers was my first clue I wasn’t going to enjoy myself. We were then “greeted” and I use the term loosely considered the barman just lent down on the bar and stared at us like we shouldn’t be there. I then decided I would initiate the conversation as clearly my experience of working behind a bar and being the first to make conversation was incredibly inaccurate. I then did the gentlemanly thing and ordered my girlfriends drink “pink gin and lemonade” to which the barman looked at my girlfriend and said “ and for you?” We both laughed as we assumed he was joking, to which he replied “well I don’t know do I” and walked off asking the lady who I can only assume was running the place at the time, whether they had pink gin, she was also clueless about what they stocked behind the bar. We got our drinks after deciding we would probably not eat here and went and sat down. My girlfriend attempted to enjoy her flat gin and lemonade which tasted of lemon flavoured water! The only plus I have from the entire experience is that the pint was nice and I used their WIFI to post this review. All in all if I could have given it a -5 star rating I would have!"

A lovely spot for a bite and drink to loosen up before a drive to the Windmills to watch the stars come out late at night ...x

What has happened to the food its terrible worst roast ever. Hard veg horrible meat over cooked in the microwave tables not clean gone down hill. Over priced shame used to be good.

Excellent lunch. The pub is warm, welcoming and dog friendly (treats behind the bar). Wonderful choice of food we had three different mains and two pubs and all were brilliant. Generous portions so don't have a starter unless you are starving or greedy. Lovely atmosphere and really friendly staff. I wish it was my local.

Our party of 15 thoroughly enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch yesterday, Clare had made the occasion effortless for me, making and overseeing all the arrangements. the service was very efficient and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Pre lunch drinks in their beautiful garden was perfect for 2 year old twins, followed by our lunch in the pub’s dining room. Thank you so much Clare and Team, we will definitely all be back x

The brilliant staff team at the Jack and Jill hosted a wake earlier this week. Honestly, they were amazing and made what was a very tricky day for us as easy as possible in every respect. The food was excellent, the menu was bespoke as they allowed us to choose exactly what we wanted and their organisation was first class. The staff on the day were great. The room we hired was spot on for our needs and the gardens are peaceful and with an idyllic view. It was also just a couple of minutes from Clayton Wood Burial Ground, so the location was very easy for us all. Thank you to Clare, Paul and the team at the Jack and Jill.

Lovely big garden which is thoughtfully split in two with an area specifically for families with a children’s play area and another section aimed at adults only. If you sit in the garden you are required to leave a credit card behind the bar to ensure you don’t take off without paying ! The menu is on a chalkboard in the main bar area and appears to change regularly. Food was fresh, well presented and quickly served. The pub itself looks a bit tired inside and there was broken furniture in the garden which needed to be removed but we were in the quiet part of the garden on a lovely sunny day and overall it was very enjoyable.

Took my walking group here for lunch. Booked 15 people in for 2.00pm. Clare was so efficient in dealing with my booking and pre order and all the staff were welcoming, organised and prepared for when we turned up and were flexible in adding another place for an extra person. The food was delicious. The group ordered various baguettes, roast dinner, chicken pie, sea bream, ham, egg and chips, macaroni cheese, vegan burger all reasonably priced and the food did not disappoint. Great service particularly as they were very busy. Considering there were lots of us our food was brought out promptly. The roast leg of lamb was cooked perfectly and tender with veg and roast potatoes. Decent range of p...

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
