"During a heat wave in Berlin, I was looking for something tasty that wasn't sushi and wasn't too heavy. Heno Heno in Charlottenburg fit the bill. They do have some heavier dishes on the menu, like curry rice with beef or don bowls, but they also have cold soba and udon dishes. Not only do they make the soba and udon fresh in-house, but the prices are very gentle. I barely cracked the 10 euro mark, and that was with a soba dish with beef (7,20€ and an onigiri (1,90€ , plus a beer. The place wasn't very full when we got there on a Saturday night, but we had a reservation anyway. Our onigiri and edamame, and drinks came out quickly. My dining partner had a homemade ginger lemonade and said it was very tasty and very ginger-y. My Pilsner Urquell tasted like a pilsner. The kombu onigiri was very tasty and freshly made. You wouldn't think that cooked seaweed and rice wrapped in nori would taste good, but it really does. For main dishes, I ordered the cold soba with beef, although it's also available as a vegetarian option or with tofu, which we also ordered over udon. The beef was really tender and flavorful, although next time I would order the straight vegetarian version because the cooked seaweed that came with was tastier to me than the beef. The homemade noodles were also very good, and the cold broth at the bottom was refreshing. I tried the thin strips of fried tofu on the other plate of udon, and found its marinade too sweet for my taste. To wrap this long review up: This place is only a bit more expensive than döner kebab shops, and it's so good! If you're in the area of Savignyplatz, give it a try."
