Kala Red - Carta

The place is nice, the meals also. i definitely recommend it.

The menu was limited since they had run out of main dishes, but the rest of the food was average and nothing particularly noteworthy.

kalaRed has always been my favourite place to eat in Maidstone and my recent outing was just as good. I thought the addition of a lively bar downstairs after our meal was a nice ending to a perfect evening and yet again our food was outstanding! I'll be back for Chinese New Year next year

Lovely food and prompt and friendly service. The menu offers a good selection of food at quite a reasonable rate. The staff are attentive and helpful, and the food is of a good quality. I would recommend the restaurant, but be aware that the bar downstairs can be very noisy on a Friday or Saturday night, and the dj starts playing loud music fairly early.

We used to love Kala Red but they have decided to concentrate on the bar downstairs to the detriment of the upstairs restaurant. A DJ was playing banging music right under us from onwards and it got progressively louder until the floor was shaking by The food was ok and the staff friendly enough but the restaurant on a Saturday night was barely a quarter full. The restaurant lacked ambiance as we were the only customers there on a Saturday evening. Although the food was decent, it was not served piping hot, indicating it may have been prepared in advance. The noise from the bar downstairs was not bothersome, but we decided to leave around 9:30pm. Additionally, a 10% service charge was automatically included on the bill, which was not enough to entice me to return.

The food was great, but the service was lacking. Despite being seated before others, we were served after them. Many tables received prawn crackers, but we had to request ours. One of our dishes came out first, followed by the rest of our order 15 minutes later, causing the first dish to be cold. There seemed to be a shortage of staff for the number of customers. We will not be returning for another dining experience.

Firstly, its not just a Chinese restaurant..... you can buy a whole range of oriental and spicy dishes.The service is exemplary, it even makes me smile upon leaving the the matredee (sp) always says Goodby Mr XXXXX to my husband, and that was from the very first time! its these little touches and the instamatic prawn crackers that you remember.Saying that, the food is beautiful and the surroundings pleasent, so I wouldn't doubt your enjoyment....Becareful at weekends though because downstairs opens as a bar and produce a little bit of hubub.
