"I went to the Colombe d'Or to celebrate my friend birthday. I went there before and I was so impressed by this place that I needed to come back to share the experience with my best friend Gianni! This is an unique place which has been opened for more than 100 years. Picasso, Matisse, Braque and all the famous artists from the beginning of last century where coming here to eat and used to pay their bills with their pieces of art in exchange.... Now la Colombe d'Or has become like a private museum where you can come to eat and stay overnight because they have also few bedrooms. The open air terrace is full of plants and candle lights and you can eat sitting outside, the atmosphere is fantastic and the crowd that evening was a mixtures of locals, old and young and I also spotted 2 famous French movie stars ! The restaurant is at the entrance of St Paul the Vence and it looks almost unreal surrounded by sculptures and paintings of so many famous artists! The food was also very good which was a bonus because to be honest the place alone is magical. We sampled typical French cuisine with lots of fish courses and a very good rose' wine called the Whispering Angels The Grand Marnier soufflé was also to die for....."

Yet again a wonderful two dinners at this legendary hotel/restaurant in the most beautiful courtyard setting. Just allow a year to book your table!

This was a delightful place for lunch. A friend recommended the restaurant to me and we were not disappointed. Nice ambiance, delicious lobster salad and wonderful squash soup.

If you love art you must go here. Old school hotel and restaurant with a great art collection. Food was very good although not sure about serving melon and Palma ham with a whole melon with the top sliced off! Expensive as you would imagine but a great atmosphere.

La Colombe d'Or has a fantastic reputation. To be fair, its terrace is beautiful and eating surrounded by master paintings is unique. Having said that, the food is just ok and the prices are very steep for what you get. Most upsetting was how they try. To squeeze as many people as possible around a table on their terrace - it was unpleasant.

We wanted to dine at La Colombe D'Or so much, we made reservations months in advance since we heard such wonderful things. But when we got there the fumes from the kerosene lanterns were so overpowering we couldn't eat there. We had to leave. Don't get why they have to use kerosene instead of odorless oil for the lanterns or just plain candles. It was so overpowering it was nauseating. But the artwork was beautiful!

Booked in advance through the hotel and was looking forward to the experience. Had a lovely time and we were exceptionally well taken care of by all staff. The sad part for me was that I had wanted to visit this because of its great history and was so looking forward to it. There is a limited vegetarian menu with the only available meal being boiled veggies. Sadly not the most exciting meal on earth. My choice I know but would have appreciated more choice. Great setting. Flowers, sun and art.

Having booked well in advance we arrived midweek for lunch. Having been here before we were so happy to be back and the terrace was packed. The food was not fussy but absolutely fantastic good cooking. The wine list extensive but we went for the house rose which was the best we had when in Provence and the cheapest which shows how other places are ripping you off. Can't wait to visit again and probably stay close rather than staying in Nice which was very noisy with the Nice Music Festival. I mean conversation stopping loud for a large area around the old town.I reckon the Colombe D'Or must be one of the best restaurants in the world , but that's my opinion.

I have always wanted to visit and the art did not disappoint. Sadly, however, the overall experience did. The terrace was crammed full and claustrophobic with no room between tables although that probably suited most of the customers who were clearly there to see and be seen rather than to enjoy the food and art.... boat owners and their bouncers. It reminded us of the experience we had at Nobu in Park Lane, full of the worst kind of tourists, over-rated and over-priced. Not an arty foodie haven as it had been when my parents used to visit in the 90's. The service was mixed..... one waiter in particular was extremely snotty. The food was good I suspect, but to be honest it was over-shadowed...

Finally managed to get a table after spending the last three years on vacation in the area and wow, worth the wait!We were taken into the courtyard for lunch and it was a good mixture of groups and couples, so great buzz with waiters constantly moving with massive plates of fish, vegetables and meat! For starters we had the prawns and charcuterie, which was a meal in itself! Amazing fresh crudités with an assortment of small dishes like onions, anchovies, lentils etcFor main course, I had the chicken with morel mushrooms and partner had sea bream, both amazing. To finish, the eau de vie was a real pick me up!Service is brilliant and then on way to loos, recommend wandering around the downstair...

"**Intro**Before I start this review I want to explain that the menu for tonight was fixed due to a jazz event outside the restaurant. So all you could choose from was 1 of 3 dishes of a starter, main course and desert (3 dishes of 9). With so few options the results bound to be good when you can focus and do a few dishes really well. Our company had a table for 7.**Time management**We got there at 20.30 just before the jazz band started playing outside. Drinks took 15 minutes to serve and after that an additional 30 minutes for starters. After 50 additional minutes the main course was served. The deserts was served after the jazz bands session had ended at around 22.30.In terms of speedy service I would call this a disaster. Although one waiter understood that we had been waiting for almost 50 minutes she had a poor explanation for the delay "A lot of the guests wanted their deserts served but your food is coming up in five minutes."This is a great way of kindly explaining how much of a non-priority we were. 1 of 5**Food**When it comes to the food I would love to say that it was worth the wait, but it wasn't.Starter: Duck liver with caramelized apple with some kind of crushed nuts. The good: Caramelized apple and crushed nuts was very tasty. 3 of 5. The bad: Duck liver had a spoungy texture and tasted very little to nothing. A bit of salt would probably save the taste and I could have given it a decent 3,5-4 maybe.Main Course: Fish in tomato sauce with ruccola. The good: At least the fish was fresh. The bad: This was nothing worth remembering. I feel so sad that a fine file of fish got served on such a poor plate with a tomato sauce and a 1/2 cup of ruccola. I mean come on, a student on a tight budget could make a better tasting fish while trying to nuke it with spices, herbs or even ketchup. No chef-effort whatsoever. Also, where was the salt? Use of fresh fish was the only positive thing. 2 of 5Desert: Fromage with Nutella and some kind of nuts crushed with pop rocks. The good: Fromage tasty and didn't end the night in total failiure. The bad: The melted chocolate was not actual Nutella. Maybe some generic brand? Also the pop rocks would be more of a success on a childs desert. 3 of 5**Service**The waiters had a busy evening hopefully trying to make their best but I am sad that all waiters had their sight fixed on everything else except their guests. Since we had been ignored and had our expected 80-90 minute restaurant visit being delayed to approx. 150 minutes I can not say that I am satisfied with the service. After each dish being served non of the waiters returned and asked how the food tasted. Not even after clearing the table after each dish or when we asked to pay the bill. 1 of 5**Summary**I suggest the restaurant would improve the following:1. Whip the waiters to communicate with the guests. "How is the food tasting/Are you all satisfied/Care for some more wine?"2. Don't have a guy trying to be a sommelier when he even can not divide a bottle of wine equally. Just don't. 3. When explaining a time delay don't explain what you were doing instead. Explain what you can do for us to make up for it. Just a simple I'm sorry would do just fine if you lack mandate to offer a fruitplate or whatever.4. When the bill is being asked for don't walk away and start clearing the table for other guets.5. Fire the chef. Main reason for not succeding in executing only 9 dishes in an evening with brilliance. There is nothing to salvage here. This restaurant might have potential on any other night since previous ratings was what got us to book a table here tonight. Hopefully this is an one time fail for the restaurant. Food was not bad, just tasteless and the waiters succeded in making the evening a boring one. Sorry but I won't visit this place once again.Salute."
