The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the beer is pretty decent too.

The staff was beyond overwhelmed, particular the first server who came to our outside table on a beautiful Sunday.

The staff is excellent, the food is delicious, the location is perfect, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a simple yet satisfying dining experience, whether it be for a night out or for lunch.

Enjoyable food but service was a little slow. Drinks order was very slow. It felt like we were seated but then forgotten about as not offered drinks and or menus straight away Some gentle background music would have been nice. Chips were a little soggy. I made a reservation online, but when I arrived, it seemed like no one was expecting us. We were quickly taken upstairs, away from the lively atmosphere downstairs with the music and bar. This was our second visit and the first time was much better, possibly just luck as we walked in without a reservation. I'm not sure I would want to visit again, as there are plenty of other options around Canterbury. Thanks, Steve.

We visited La Trappiste for Father's day. The place itself is very authentic and quirky and the manager is very accommodating; we had to rebook our table for a later time because we were stuck in traffic and this was done with no fuss or complication. I thought this very impressive considering it was father's day. When we arrived we were also given a nicer table which was lovely. The food here is amazing and they do over a hundred local beers and ales. The only negatives I can think of is there is no air conditioning so on a hot day it is very hot in there. in the center of the medieval canterbury is an old and tasty restaurant, named for the famous Trapiste, which serves typical Belgian foods (although we are in england). this place is a cross between a bar, a tea room and a restaurant. besides a large selection of beers, they enjoy delicious dishes such as the exceptional burgers that are served with homemade brot, or the special tee with cream. the restaurant has a rustic feel, and each chair is another style. the terrace is magnificent, and there is even a pavillon, decorated with tiny lights that they feel like surrounded by stars in the midst of this beautiful medieval building. on the ground floor they find a piano with a sign that invit...
