"I had arranged to pick up 2 friends from remote Langwathby Station on the famous Settle to Carlisle line. It is a cute little station with plenty of parking, and we had the bonus of a steam train come through 5 minutes after my friends train arrived. The station cafe/restaurant was closed , with a notice advising it was under new ownership, and being refurbished, and would be open by October. This will be a bonus, as apart from a quick look around the station architecture and features there is not a lot to do, and on a wet and windy day this can be an exposed site. My rating is for the pretty little station setting and bonus of a steam train coming through, rather than the cafe itself. I wish the owners good luck, I am sure a good cafe here with food and drink offering will enhance visitors experience of this pretty little station. If it had been open I would have used it."

We live locally and just called in after our walk for tea and scones. The cherry scone with cream and jam was the best I have had in a long time. My hubbies cheese scone also got ten out of ten. Thank you...

Had a really nice, relaxed lunch here at the Station cafe. My bacon and brie bun had THREE rashers of bacon and presented very nicely. Will definitely be back to sample the cakes on another occasion. P.S. There was also the added advantage of the chance to see the 'Flying Scotsman ' whoosh past on it 's way north.

Had a wonderful Italian meal for two. The Antipasti was so lovely and added butter beans to give it s twist! The baked lamb steaks in tomatoes with herbs were delicious. The sides of rice, tomato salad and focaccia were beautiful on their pretty dishes. The Almond and Blackberry tart was to die for, so smooth and lovely sweet pastry with no soggy bottoms! All in all a lovely dining experience done with obvious passion, care and love. Thank you Janet and Staff. Ver carta

Absolutely phenomenal food. Jan and team provided the catering for our wedding and I can honestly say it was some of the best food I have ever eaten. The focacia breads and Mediterranean meals were amazing. An the dessert was amazing. Especially the olive oil lemon cake. Thank you for all your efforts. Not inky was the food great but Jan and her team couldn't do enough for us. Thanks again. We are hoping to visit for our anniversary for a romantic meal. Many thanks

The restaurant is located at a working station along the Settle Carlisle railway line, which was saved from closure through great efforts. The food is exceptional, delicious, and leans more towards continental rather than traditional Cumbrian cuisine, with a variety of vegetarian options and side dishes. I would give the food a 5-star rating. The only downside was sitting near a big window and the door on a cold winter evening, so next time I will choose a table further inside.

The Settle Carlisle Singers performed carols at the Station Cafe, where Janet was very welcoming. Afterwards, we all boarded the train to sing with other choirs at Ribblehead and Settle. In the evening, we returned and had supper at the Langwathby Station Cafe, where we were impressed by the excellent food. A friend visiting from near Manchester remarked that if this cafe were located near them, it would be crowded with long queues. Overall, the delicious food, hospitable host Janet, and convenient location near the train station made it a fantastic find. Ver carta

Called in the station cafe whilst passing, I'm glad we did. Set in the old station waiting room it is still maintained in its original appearance. We were served by a cheerful and attentive young waitress who brought us water without asking. We chose salmon and asparagus quiche and the mixed bean chill with rice. Both came with fresh salad and were judged excellent. The fresh coffee that followed was on the weak side but I am sure it would have been replaced had we asked. We also shared a delicious fruit scone with butter. Dogs are made welcome and ours was even served a sliced sausage on a paper plate ! Well done all.

We hired Janet and her team from Langwathby Station Cafe for our wedding at High Barn on the Eden Hall Estate and it was absolutely perfect! The weather was great, the venue was fantastic, and the food was amazing! The food was truly outstanding and everyone has said it's the best they've ever had at a wedding. We enjoyed a relaxed hot and cold buffet with delicious dishes and incredible cakes, as well as soft baps in the evening, all perfectly fitting into our busy day. Janet handled everything flawlessly and we couldn't be happier. We highly recommend Langwathby Station Cafe to everyone, whether for a casual lunch or a special event. They offer unbeatable value for money and we can't sing...

"We had a disappointing experience during our stay. The bedroom was quite cold, and despite asking for the heating to be turned on, we had to sit in our coats. The bathroom was freezing each morning, and the dining room didn't offer much relief either. The heating was activated for just one hour, which meant the radiator was cold again when we returned to our room. Their cost-cutting measures significantly impacted our enjoyment. We raised our concerns multiple times, but there was no one available when we settled the bill. At £100 per night for bed and breakfast (totaling over £200 including dinner), it was frustrating to be so uncomfortable. Another guest mentioned they had complained about the heating during their previous visit, only to be told there was an ongoing issue. It seems they simply won’t turn on the heating. We won’t be returning, especially since it’s quite a drive to get into town. Regarding the room, we were assigned an attic room (Room 8). It had many steep stairs and low headroom in places. While the bathroom was nice, it was also freezing. The towel rail was pointless since it was stone cold, and my husband had to skip his morning shower due to the chill. We ended up moving to Room 7, which was smaller but slightly warmer despite having a cold bathroom. The bathroom door didn’t shut properly, and the lights were all or nothing. The next morning, we moved our belongings back to Room 8 since they finally decided to turn on the electric wall heater—which they could have done from the outset. It only took the chill off for a little while. On our last night, we experienced a brief boost of heat, but it only lasted an hour. When we returned after dinner, the room was already cool again. As for nearby activities, there’s a park across a busy road, but everything else requires driving to reach shops and restaurants. Safety-wise, the hotel faces a main road, and there are very few parking spaces available (around four); otherwise, you need to park on the main road. Walking to town is possible, but it takes about 15 to 20 minutes downhill. In terms of food and drinks, the breakfast was decent. When asked if we wanted toast, we received just one slice on the same plate as the cooked breakfast. After asking for more, we had to wait a while before we were given another slice. Dinner was acceptable but nothing to write home about; it felt overpriced compared to the excellent authentic Indian restaurant we found in town, which served great food at better prices and opened at 5 PM. Overall, I'd recommend bringing warm clothes for both the bedroom and dining area; we even saw another guest sitting in her coat the entire time."
