"We were a group of four adults on a mini tour of the Loire Valley and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor, booking from the UK a few days before our arrival. Had we not reserved, we wouldn't have been seated ... People were being turned away as it was full from early on Saturday evening. We were pleasantly surprised to have been allotted a table outside which was most welcome given the muggy temperature. Service was provided by two very jolly, friendly and helpful young men! We chose the rillettes starter which was to die for and steak and guineafowl between us for main, perhaps not the most tender of beef however we weren't paying extortionate prices and the flavour was lovely and presentation excellent. With only two of us having dessert as we had eaten enough really, the price came in at around €25 each including drinks and tips. Given the location in the picturesque old town with its timbered buildings, quaint, narrow streets and not far from the river, we thought this was quite reasonable. There is a secure underground car park next to the main road along by the river which is a ten minute stroll to the restaurant at most."

The whole meal was great but the vegetable veloute was incredible. As was the panna cotta dessert. Friendly and helpful wait staff.

We really enjoyed our meal. We had the menu of the day with a really good local white wine. Dessert for me and cheese for the spouse to round out a relaxing respite from touring. I would definitely go back.

We ate here twice this week as our first meal was so good (lovely beef for 16 euros). Went back this evening - the pork ( cheeks? ) were beautiful as was the lamb in garlic. The better bottle of local red ( touraine meslands - gold award!) was 19 euros but the previous rose was very smooth at only 15. Great service too and friendly. Ver carta

The owner of the Airbnb lodging where we stayed in Blois had recommended this restaurant. So happy he did! The specials were delicious, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and the prices were quite affordable. This is a traditional low-key French restaurant in the heart of Blois that gives the diner an insight into French culinary delights.

Beware! As a veggie I do struggle to find reasonable food in France but Happy Cow and Trip Advisor suggested this restaurant so we went. There is a menu which says it is veggie but only if you eat fish and gelatine! So not really veggie. The house red we got was not the same as the house red for the French guests at the next table and the inside room was packed like sardines. Food 3/5 service 3/5 ambience 2/5.

I went here because of the reviews on Tripadvisor. It was an absolute pleasure. I was lucky, it's small and I hadn't made a reservation. But there still was a table and within 10 minutes the place was fully packed. Service was good. I had some real nice french food, the taste was refined, the plates looked appealinf and the mousse au chocolat: to die for! And all this for a relatively small price. I would absolutely have dinner if you like an authentique restaurant. Ver carta

We were looking for a restaurant that was vegetarian friendly and came across Le Chatelet while exploring Blois on foot. We arrived just before opening time of 19.00 but were allowed in and made to feel welcome. The staff were very friendly and as two of our party (of four) wanted vegetarian meals they took time to explain the options in detail. The vegetarian crumble was a great success as was the coq au vin made with a local red wine. The boudin starter was adjudged superb

We went to dinner at "Le Castelet" looking at the exterior of the Restaurant and we were not disappointed. It is a very familiar restaurant, where they cook classic dishes of French cuisine with typical products of the region and game meat from the area.We ate a la carte, 2 adults and 2 children, with local wine. The total price was € 117. All products are made in the house, even the desserts are much quality. In the site, many locals were dining, especially couples. The main room is small, but there are more rooms inside. It's a great place to go to dinner in Blois.

"Assa is located in a nondescript building on the western edge of Blois. Inside, however, the restaurant displays a spare, modern, Japanese-influenced design. The tables are spaciously arranged on two levels giving all of them access to a direct view of the Loire flowing slowly past. The kitchen is open to the restaurant where the two chef-owners can be seen busily creating the meals. The menu has several format options allowing for the selection of different combinations of appetizers, main courses and desserts; the specific menu contents change based on the available produce. The wine list mainly focuses on Loire Valley wines arranged geographically from the Muscadets of the coastal region to the eastern-most Sancerres. It took some time for the server to acknowledge us when we entered, then take our order, because there was only one person serving all the tables. But, once the dinner began, the experience was wonderful. The dishes are among the most inventive and flavorful we have encountered over the years in many other Michelin-starred restaurants. The non-traditional flavor combinations worked extremely well. The two main courses that night—dourade and veal—were spectacular. Assa is a French, not a Japanese, restaurant, but with a Japanese influence in the flavors and the plating of the dishes. All the dishes we sampled were light and fresh without heavy sauces. The menu was written in French only, and the server spoke very little English, but any sophisticated diner with a broad palate will have a wonderful experience by sitting back and letting the courses flow. As each course is small (a few bites), if you are there for dinner, we do suggest choosing the options with most or all of the courses. Sticking to the classic French “formule” of a starter, main course, and dessert, will be fine for lunch, but perhaps too little at dinner. If we return to this region of the Loire Valley, Assa will be first on our list."
