"We ate here at the recommendation of our B&B owner since we were staying in Ampui and there are few restaurants in the region (you MUST have a GPS or you will get lost in the winding roads). Note: Tourists and people who do not speak French do not go here. This is one of those local spots. Our serving team consisted of two young assistants (Who were so sweet and lovely despite our botched French) and the older lead server, decked out in a three piece suit (his demeanor was cold French snob, but not in a mean, intentional way). You may get a guffaw if you order a wine that you *want* but that is not *perfectly* paired with your meal as it apparently must be. Overall the food was good, but not excellent. [The wine was of course wonderful a bottle of Saint Joseph. But that was to be expected since we we specifically in Ampui to appreciate the source of Cote Rotie and Saint Joseph wines. In our opinion, the best wine in the world. The complexity is due to the lush volcanic gravel, the lush minerals, steep hills, situated on the Rhone river. And they are AFFORDABLE. At a restaurant 20 35 Euros gets you an amazing bottle. We are clearly jipped on the French wine front in the US. This was not the type of place that I could snap photos, since we stuck out like a sore thumb. We clearly *looked* different than the French locals and there were constant glances of intrigue on our table (for example, when we messed up the pre meal aperitif order and custom). Spouse and I both started with the Andalucian Gazpacho (at the server's rec) it was good, tasted like it does in Andalucia... but was definitely not BETTER than gazpacho in Andalucia... It needed more garlic, more cucumber. The best dish I had was the Cabillaud (Cod). There was a foamy, buttery sauce with peas... Again, it wasn't the best I've ever had but it was very good. The desserts were both awful. Just bad. I wouldn't recommend this spot if you don't speak French. But in Ampuis, you are in a bit of a restaurant dessert, so there are slim pickings. My advice: Go to the grocery stores and markets in Ampuis where you get beautiful organic veggies, fruits, cheeses, meats and spend all of your dough on the best wine! Skip the restaurants... have picnics in the gorgeous fields or at your B&B, overlooking the beautiful scenery."

"Restaurant was recommended to us, we arrived around opening time (19.00 h.) at the restaurant and needed to wait a bit. After about a quarter of an hour we were seated at a table outside on the terras near the restaurant entrance-door (we were offered no choice) without a view. So we didn’t see the spectacular view as described.Looking at the menu we chose the menu TER ou MER ( 22 euro ), with red house wine (côtes du Rhone).Le Presse au poisson au caviar de courgette with crumbled olive and parmesanThe dish looked great but was highly disappointing. The flavor very flat, not well seasoned , the crumbled part was hardly recognizable in taste.Melon au Porto dans tous son etatsThe melon (Cantaloupe) was good, with smoked ham and cream with porto. As main course we chose L’idée du chef’, which was veal. The meat , not seasoned at all, cooked ok, with as side dish pommes de terre gratinées and tomatoes with rosemarinFor dessert we chose the Charlotte. It was served in a glass, like a trifle.Biscuit (or cake?) was the first layer, then abricote compote and on top vanilla-bavarois. For us it was not a traditional charlotte with again a very flat taste, except for the apricots, which were delicious. Conclusion: very average food, glad we didn’t take the more expensive 40 euro menuThe waiter was very friendly, the spectacular view we only saw on the parking lot, but it would definitely not have made up for the dinner."
