"There are umpteen restaurants downstairs next to the port you can choose from.And if you are wearing clothes bought at designer only stores on 5th Ave, Rodeo Drive or even Jean Medecin, you might feel at home with people who have probably never worked in their life. Good luck to them, they look fabulous if a little bored.But we prefer Le Saint Jean, as real people eat there. The overworked servers are just great with that little Niceoise edge that a sense of humor will mollify.By the time we ate, the Lasagna and Calamari plats de Jour were finished, so we settled for the calves liver. It was beautifully cooked, just very slightly pink, no trace of blood (for my wife who never normally eats this dish).The French fries are home cut and fresh fried, served in individual deep-frying baskets as if to prove it.The only problem was some idiot who thought it was a good idea to feed the pigeons and doves, which needed no additional encouragement.You can literally get off the bus, have lunch, linger and then take the bus back to Nice if you choose not to take one of the more spectacular walks back to Villefranche or the other way, to Beaulieu sur Mer.But here is a tip we have learned. To get to Port St. Jean, do not get off the bus until it completes a circle and goes back down into the village.We have made the mistake of thinking we have missed the stop for the Jardin de Rothschild and getting off at the stop after St. Jean which is at the beach near Beaulieu. The bus goes back up the hill to the Jardin and eventually St. Jean.Get off at the stop after you see the Le Saint.Jean on your left.If you do get off by mistake, there is a very nice long walk along the seafront back to St. Jean. But you probably want to do this from choice and not when you need a bite or a sip of rose."

We were twelve walkers who stopped for lunch last Sunday lunchtime.I had the pizza and house wine, pizza was very good and the wine was good.Everyone was happy with the meal and service, I will go back and recommend the restaurant if you are in St Jean.

Had pizza, soup de poisson and carbonara split between the 2 children. Food was fine and the carbonara was generous portions. Service was very slow especially the drinks . .. the only thing that came fast was the bill . . . and that was somebody else's! Ver carta

We had a pizza and wine on Venetian night. The location couldn't have been better and we had a most enjoyable evening. Understandably the restaurant was extremely busy so service was under great pressure. However it was fine and we left shortly before midnight feeling very happy with our good luck in finding a seat at this very basic pizzeria!

Came here for dinner thinking we'll get something simple like a pizza and burger and what a disappointment. The burger came out, the bun was burnt and the meat pattie was raw. The pizza was ok but very sloppy. We were so put off by the burger we sent it back, quickly ate the pizza and left. Only redeeming factor is they didn't charge us for the burger.

We stopped here for lunch half way through our "Cap Walk". Beautiful location and lovely pizzas, but unfriendly service. The people on the next table asked for the umbrella to be put up on a lovely sunny day, but this was refused, the bill arrived before being requested. Service with a smile combined with the good food and superb location could make this place really good! Ver carta

Stopped for a late lunch after 2pm and settled on this place. Looked ok apart from the inevitable smokers. Ordered pizza and drinks. Pizzas were ok and arrived relatively quickly. two pizzas and 3 drinks 37.00 Euros. Brought the bill quickly without asking if we wanted anything else which we did. So new drink ordered and new bill promptly arrived, doesn't really encourage you to linger. Toilet door lock broken and didn't flush.

The last time we were in St Jean, we were in a similar position to yesterday: we had done some walking and we were in need of something to drink. We went in one of the other establishments quite near as we had previously been there and we had been happy.The last time, however, it became a place not to return to! The waiter tried it on by pretending I had given him a 5 Euro note rather than the 20 Euro note I actually gave him. What made it worse was that after I challenged him and he gave me the correct change,the boss who had overheard the conversation did nothing at all about it.
