"The Chateau was full and it was hot. Those can be the only excuses for at times inexcusably slow and inattentive service. If the food had been top drawer it might have been ok. It wasn't. We arrived a little later than booked but most people were well into their meals so there should have been no significant additional stress on the waiting staff or kitchen. Despite that we waited quite some time to be offered a drink and water.Eventually we got water and champagne. No bread. No staff visible to respond to requests for bread. The order taking process was far from slick and the head waiter had to come back to check that he had the right order after ten minutes ! Starters arrived chaotically and just like a cafe the waiters were asking to whom each dish belonged. It's not hard to get that right. It's unforgivable when two of the party of 9 are lactose intolerant and one is pregnant and avoiding soft cheese etc. The waiters really had little idea what was on each plate. We managed to get bread on the third request. It took three requests to get additional water. The entrées were ok apart from the soft goats cheese in the green gazpacho and it is not too hard a stretch to guess to whom that was served! The main courses were a disappointment. The faux-filets were ordered medium rare and were close to well done, if not actually well done. The 3 lamb dishes were supposed to be lactose free for two guests and only one was served. It turned out after a lot of questioning and panic from the waitress that the only lactose containing item was a Parmesan crisp. For myself I would have left this anyway as it was burned black. The fish dish was indeterminate under-seasoned and lacked any form of theme or flavour.Deserts arrived at random and the two dishes of the day ten minutes after the other 7 dishes. "Mainly creamy gloop" was a good description of two of the deserts. It has to be said that the wine list has a couple of excellent and good value wines but not enough and it is a very short list. Not unsurprisingly it took just as long and just as much effort to get the bill.Either the Chateau had a bad night to forget or the standard has fallen somewhat since we last ate here. It is touch and go whether we will bother to return to see which way the food and service have gone especially as there was no change from €85 a head!"
