"Went with my partner decided to eat inside as it was too hot for the terrace, quite small inside but there is an upstairs part to the restaurant. Our seat was near to the kitchen and personally I liked that as I could actually see some of our meals being prepared. The restaurant is actually quite cosy. The staff were excellent, however the manager was a little bit off when we refused an apertif and some wine for my partner as she had been suffering from a bad migraine. I actually explained this in French and fortunately her attitude changed. Our starters consisted of Gambas (Large prawns) in a sauce and also plate of foie gras ( sorry if you don't agree but I love this !) Both of us agreed that the starters were excellent. Our main course was the duck fillets which were very well cooked and succulent. Along with a mashed potato, fennel and tomato in a lovely sauce. We then had the house dessert and house creme caramel again both were very nice. I also had a glass of rose wine and sparkling water, in all the meal was excellent but cost €89 euros. I would eat there again although a bit pricey then again most restaurant's in Sainte Maxime are pricey."

Nice and cozy with authentic French cuisines. Service was okay but needed reminders. Reasonable price for the region. 25-35 euro menus.

The food here is very delicious, nice staff. Good place to talk with friends - on the second floor. There were some german seniors, who laughed a lot, seems like not a first time there. We also appreciated the friendly service.

I think Les Flambeaux is best value in Sainte Max.Food is very 'old school French cuisine' and all the better for that. No fancy 'foams', shards' or other gastro nonsense just honest, well prepared fresh food.Portion sizes are on the generous side and drinks are good value for the area.Best ever Creme Caramel.Service very good.

The best of French rustic food in and amongst all the great restaurants in st maxime. The only place We went back to here twice in our 2 week stay. The foie gras just melted in the mouth. And they have a spit roaster to cook the baby chicks just perfect. Welcoming knowledgeable staff one of which spoke excellent English. Great wine menu too. Ver carta

I am always quite careful not to end up in overpriced tourist traps - the night we ate here we succeeded. The atmosphere is very relaxed and they take good care of you, the food is absolutely delicious and the value for money is really good.On a hot summer night their veranda is where you would want to sit - as their veranda is a small one, making a reservation would be smart! Enjoy

Super easy to find and lovely restaurant behind "la tour carrée" which is font of the Sainte-Maxime port. We were warmly welcomed and well served (French tradition). They have a great menu with fresh fish and also local meats with all sorts of local specialities. Prices are more than decent for the location and the quality of food. Nothing else to say than go for it in avoiding the touristic places.

We had the 26 euro menu. My entree of fried eggplant with warm goats cheese on salad was delicious. My fish special of the day was nice but less memorable. I wasn't keen on the baked custard dessert but that doesn't mean it wasn't good if you like baked custard! The service was good and the restaurant had a lovely ambiance and the wine was good. My husband enjoyed his meal. We had an enjoyable evening and would visit again. Ver carta

This is a small restaurant located behind the church and well worth a visit. There are two set menus, one for 26 euros and one for 36 euros as well as the al'carte menu. The menu is in English as well as French which makes it easier to order if you don't speak much French. We ate here on two evenings. The first time we ordered off the 26 euro menu, which was good. The second time we ordered off the 36 euro menu, this was fantastic food. The gambas (large shrimps) and the steak were superb. The rose wine was good.Very friendly staff.I can recommend this restaurant.

Here in the old quarter of Sainte Maxime, just behind the church, we found this, from the outside almost invisible, tiny French bistrot. Inside here is quite authentic. Low ceiling and close between the tables. Open out to the tiny kitchen where le Chef reigns. Here smells wonderful spices and cooking good food. The menu is not large, contains two menus in different price range and a number of à la carte dishes that are the same from the menus. Honestly and fair. The typical choice is the starter, main course and dessert, followed by an espresso. The food is extremely well cooked, tastes heavenly and there are plenty of it. The wine list is manageable and you stand by choosing le Chefs recom...

"It was the best of meals, The second, not so much. On the Wednesday evening we explained that we needed one gluten free meal. We were immediately handed over to a charming lady, who we took to be the proprietor. She assured us that she would confer with the chef. We ordered a “coquelet roti” with a cream and grape sauce and a fillet steak served without sauces. Chips were covered in gluten but the chef proposed a salad for the steak and the “coquelet” came with a Gratin Dauphinoise. All the food was delicious. The chicken was soft and sweet the sauce had a depth of flavour aided and abeted by the small bursts of sweet grape juice from the grapes within it. The steak was perfect; maximum of flavour from the seared outside, maximum of soft juiciness from the tender pink interior. Dessert was a fruit crumble that had not had the crumble added, pronounced delicious, and a crème broulee. The crème was not a traditional baked vanilla egg custard. It tasted like a flour based preparation and was devoid of vanilla. All in all, the service had been attentive and the food mostly great. We determined that we would return for a second meal and looked forward to it.Mistake! Sunday evening, the waitress remembered us, and promised to check for gluten free food. She checked the Champaign sauce that was served with the Salmon. We could not have it. She was not aware that the rice, the dauphinoise and the chips all contained gluten. She suggested salad. We said that would be fine. The Dorade Royale, one of my favourite fish was sold out but they could offer Sea Bass. O.K., that would do. The salad delivered with the dry salmon was a simple bag mix of leaves, not the fresh mixed salad it had been four days before. It had brown stalks and tasted stale. The fish was undoubtedly the worst cooked fish I have ever been served. It had clearly been laid on a metal tray and placed under an electric grill. It had not been turned or moved until it was served. Consequently, the top skin was like leather. It defied my efforts with the serrated knife provided to cut through it. I had to prize it off to get to the very dry fish beneath. A simple glaze of oil would have ensured that the skin became crispy and a delicious part of the fish. It would also have ensured that the (Chef?) remembered to turn the fish under the grill. When I turned the fish on the plate, the lower side skin was a soggy mess where all the juices had soaked it through. Scraping it off, the second fillet was edible, despite the attentions of the chef. We told the waitress what was wrong with our food. She said she would tell the chef. We don’t know if she did. We did not see him."
