"Thought I will try this despite poor reviews. On arrival I was met by a young male student type, who made me sit at a seat which was beside another gentleman eating. I asked for a glass of house white wine, only to told they are not licensed, despite sign outside and written on menu also. Mmmmmh! Place was coldish and really old looking. I had to tell the boy I am ready to order. The starter of smoked spicy chicken was about 5 mins,so not bad. It was tasty, not so spicy and the carrot, onion, medley with it was very greasy. My crispy chicken kung po with fried rice came about 5 minutes later.Smallish portion of fried rice. Chicken not really crispy. Plenty of veg in the spicy kung po,which looked anaemic. But its was tasty, but little chicken. Small mushroom bits in kung po is unusual and veg raw not cooked at all. No spoon given to get mains from dish to plate. How basic error. Once again I had to call a staff member as the three of them sat talking behind counter. My apple pie with ice cream came about 4 minutes later. Minus the ice cream, only cream. It was thin pie but nice. At 12.49 this high tea menu is fair enough priced. Pity staff were more interested in chatting behind counter. Food was not great but edible. I may call again sometime."

My 10-year-old grandson really enjoys this restaurant and loves eating here. As long as he's happy, I'm happy to bring him here. Any parent will understand! The food at this restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced for Bangor.

The early High Tea menu is a great deal! The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is delicious. We have been coming to this Chinese restaurant for both takeout and dining in for years, and it has always been consistently good. I highly recommend trying the salted chili chicken or sweet and sour dishes!

My partner and I love going here for the high tea menu. Staff are attentive, friendly and do not rush you. The high tea menu is such good value. I'd recommend the satay skewers (sorry i took a picture after i had started eating , the chicken curry, salted chilli chicken, honey chilli chicken... all the usual favourites! We have been going to this restaurant for a few years and were sad to hear it had closed but delighted it reopened! The only negative experience we had was the takeaway whilst the restaurant was closed... It simply wasnt as enjoyable as all the occassions we had sat in. I had ordered a chicken fried rice but it was all the brown meat of the chicken which i do not enjoy. I thi...

"Tl;dr this chef and this team are on their way to a Michelin star, so get a reservation while you can. We visited here Saturday 29, where we enjoyed the tasting menu by current chef John Hollywood. Their tasting menu is averagely priced, comparable to Dublin’s Bastible, with 6 courses actual, and plenty of wine. Aside from the setup, nothing else is average. The staff at Boat House are second to none. The atmosphere is similar to Hof van Cleve, with chirpy, witty staff happily serving customers and following the mood of the table. Their sommelier and wine pairing is particularly special, with each bottle subverting the trend, unexpected, but without compromising on quality (see: Bastible cannot figure out wine). Their sommelier is a wine nerd who’s happy to go into as much depth as you want, but you feed off the passion between courses, which is a really great dynamic between the staff and the table this is rare, usually only achieved at top star restaurants. I’ve never found this in the island of Ireland. The food itself is the perfect mix of foraged from land and sea, each dish testing and surprising you, but with some classics mixed in (beef Barolo your reward for trusting the chef). On the whole, the menu seems designed to subvert comfort you in equal measure, and succeeds with every course. You won’t find the same level of experimentation from many of the Italian tasting menus on the circuit, but that comes with the assurances of consistent quality and a journey that’ll never let you down, where subversive wine pairings inject a level of exciting chaos without risking the food. Between the atmosphere, staff, and chemistry at the table in the kitchen, a trip to Boat House can be held in the same regard as some of the world’s top Michelin star restaurants. They’re on the way. They have the ingredients, whether you know it or not. Better start those birthday reservations now."
