Tavern - Carta

Went for tea, warm welcome, had booked a table as heard how popular this pub is, food was superb, good choice on menu, large portions excellent value for money, good friendly service, would definitely recommend but make sure you book to avoid disappointment

I was in the Market Tavern today 20/01/24 with my family for lunch the service was excellent and the food was good,a little bit pricey but I do realise it is a Punch Pub who rip the Tennents off with the rents,thank you for a nice meal an ex Punch Tennent (thank god)

What a fantastic find. The menu sounded great, the reviews were good so we decided to try this place. We weren’t disappointed. The food was amazing and great value too. The quality and flavour were ten out of ten. The service was excellent too. A lovely, cosy independent pub vibe. Ver carta

Glad we went in sharp for lunch on a miserable morning got busy very quickly. My husband tried the house ale which he said was good I had Alnwick gin which was also very good. We had been looking forward all week to fish and chips so didn't even bother with menu. Great portion size loved everything in our plates definitely worth the wait.

Open 12-3 everyone gone by 3 and staff home by 3:30 to our families! Remember part of the price you are paying is for the extra the staff get paid to give up their Christmas Day with their families because you can’t be bothered to cook!

We were delighted with our evening at the Tavern Steakhouse. It was busy, but we were greeted promptly and shown to our table. The pub is old but is divided into rooms, each with a pleasant busy atmosphere. The waitress helped us choose our beers and took our order, which arrived in good time. I had the braised brisket which was heavenly, and my wife had the sirloin steak which was also excellent. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable which helped make it a special occasion for us both. Ver carta

Visited here last night with family and our two dogs and it was fabulous. Traditional style pub with a lovely atmosphere . Very friendly staff who were attentive without being overpowering. Great food and good portion sizes. The starter portion of chilli chips was almost a meal in itself. We had venison ,two Geordie chops and scampi which were all excellent. Child’s chicken and chips also decent portion. Good selection of draft beers, wines and spirits with a couple of cask ales. Definitely worth a visit .

We were greeted promptly and shown to our table. There is an extensive range of drinks and we chose a nice bottle of white and some sparkling water. My wife had the Cod Loin and I had the slow cooked Belly Pork with creamy mash and Savoy Cabbage. After a moderate wait, the food arrived and was nicely presented and very tasty. The staff were very attentive throughout and regularly checked that everything was alright and that we didn't need anything else. My wife loved her ice cream sundae for dessert and I equally enjoyed my melt in the mouth, sticky ginger pudding with fresh cream. A thoroughly enjoyable evening in a busy pub with a pleasant atmosphere.

My wife has Coeliac disease so needs gluten free food, one son has extreme allergic response to eggs, shell-fish and peanuts (he carries and epi-pen) and the other son is vegeterian. Eating out can be difficult. Not here however! The lady who came to see us was completely unfazed and said choose what you want and I'll explain what we can do for you. She then proceeded to sort out what we could (and couldn't) eat. We had 4 different meals and all were perfect. We have had so many bad experiences in other restaurants that this was an absolute joy. We could have filmed this and used it as a training film on how allergies can and should be handled. We will return. Ver carta
