"I dined at osteria del castagno with a friend. Or maybe I should say “fine dined” because on the inside of this charming but unassuming osteria on the side of a road we had traveled dozens of times on our way to San Gimignano, awaited a true dining experience. From the warm and welcoming country decor with modern touches...to the delicious dishes with fresh ingredients created with skill and care...to the attentive, top-notch service...this restaurant has it all. The highlights of our meal were the appetizer of pata negra prosciutto aged 12 and 22 months, and for the first course, a creative take on carbonara with fresh homemade ravioli. To follow, my friend ordered the deer filet, which was not only exquisitely tender, but perfectly paired with a bell pepper cream sauce. The server explained the process of slow cooking the meat and choosing subtle pairings that bring out the flavor of the meat. At the end of our meal, we had a conversation with the owner, who was running the cash register. His love for food and attention to quality were striking. One thing in particular stuck out to me: “If one of my suppliers brings any produce that is not the freshest and best quality, even one time, that supplier will never set cross my doorstep again,” he said. I highly recommend this dining experience!"

Lovely, Tuscan food, amazing, friendly service, a huge wine list of great value Chiantis and the perfect ambience for a non-stuffy romantic meal with the waiter putting us next to a sofa so we could put the kids to sleep!
