"Having seen the other reviews I can only think that our faces didn't fit as we were greeted with apathy from the minute we walked in. The food was good (I had the biggest lamb shank I've ever seen) and the chef who served it was pleasant. However, the waitress (possibly also the landlady) was abrupt and rude despite me trying to make conversation. She never asked if our food was ok, and pointedly asked a neighbouring table if they wanted desert, but ignored us. We finally walked out. I hope she was just having a bad day and this is unusual, but it didn't impress my Canadian friend, and spoilt our meal."

Visited the Pack Horse last Sunday 14th August for Sunday Lunch it was the best Sunday lunch I have eaten for a long time lovely pub and great views.

Great to see that after a couple of years absence The Ridge is back just as it used to be. Warm welcome, great beer and hearty grub with not a chip in sight just how it should be. Don’t ever change!

Lovely pub in a beautiful location. I had the steak pie which was really good, a proper pie not the usual afterthought of a pastry topping. Delicious. However it was served with what looked like chips, but which were flaccid and not very appetising.

The Pub is located in lovely scenic moorland. Seemed reasonably busy with a mix of hikers, cyclists and those just out for a run in the car like ourselves. A lovely roaring fire and pleasant welcome. Ordered the steak pie which was super! My partner had the liver, which was succulent and tasty. Accompanied be a good selection of veg of ample quantity. Good selection of drinks and real ales. It’s rare to find a place these days that has kept with the good old traditional country pub style. Keep doing what you are doing. We will definitely return.
