"I 'll start by saying that in terms of setting it 's a lovely looking restaurant hotel with pretty gardens and lawns and nice views towards the sea and cliffs in the distance. The building also has a lot of character inside and out. The food was generally good overall, but inconsistent and in some cases quite disappointing. I ordered the shoulder of lamb for my main (see photo for refefence) which was cooked fairly well and tasted fine but was essentially a microscopically small cuboid with a few accompanying carrots. At £30+ this was pretty underwhelming and misleading that they listed it as a lamb shoulder. My wife on the other hand had the plaice for her main which was very tasty, well cooked and generously sized. The Piggy Bites starter turned out to be 2 separate pork dishes, each at £5 6 each which seemed odd vs how it was shown on the menu (seemingly as one dish), though they did make us aware of this. We would recommend the pork belly but not the other accompanying separate dish, which was poor (literally some fat spread on some bruschette). The trout was fine, but nothing special. Deserts were nice, we had the cheesecake (good) and the strawberries and cream with Lavender sugar (very good). The speed of service attentiveness at this Pig was poor. Staff are polite and sweet, but we had to wait a long time for each phase to get their attention over. Firstly to order our drinks, then our our starter and main, then our dessert, then finally for the bill. The bill took the longest and we had to get up to grab a waiter in the indoor restaurant despite being in clear view of them. It 's strange as we had heard several other patrons say it wasn 't very busy, so unsure as to why it was so slow. This type of service attention is not acceptable in such a highly regarded restaurant. Lastly, on the bill was a £1 seahorse donation . We are happy to fully support any local charities or initiatives, but we were given zero context of this from anyone in the staff at any point, even when the bill was handed over, which we don 't think is acceptable at all. When it came to paying we then asked our young waiter (who 'd clearly just started his shift) for clarity. His cheerful and cheeky response (which did make us laugh) was “exactly what it says, seahorses! along with gesturing towards the sea in the distance I think it 's local. Supporting local seahorses nearby. Last year it was supporting Ukraine” but with little other context All in all, I believe it 's likely worthwhile experiencing a Pig restaurant, but I 'm not sure I 'd fully recommend this one in its current state vs the price point. It was a little disappointing for us, sadly and we mostly enjoyed the setting and sunshine rather than the rest of the experience. Service: 3 Location: 4 Hotel highlights: Great view"
