"It has been close to a year since our cycling trip to Scotland. My husband and I were just reminiscing over some of our best experiences and decided that lunching at Reading lasses was among the tops. We returned 3 or 4 times over a 10 day period. We would plan our daily cycle routes so that we would coincidentally end up in Wigtown and therefore Reading Lasses for lunch! The soups, the sandwiches, the Desserts! Unlike any other lunch stop over many countries that we have made. Wigtown us also very charming, wandering through the many book shops often made us arrive late at our final destination. Well worth the pedalling."

Brilliant spot to eat. Food was great and service couldn’t be faulted. A wee bit cold inside sometimes but overall good experience

It is a bit since we were here last but the charm and welcome have been maintained. Seating is a mixture of comfy chairs and table seating and the food is delicious cakes to cafe lunch. Surrounded by books it would be churlish not to buy but there is no pressure. Very dog friendly.

Simply superb place to sit, drink coffee whisky, eat gorgeous fresh cakes or simply read. Delightful. Can’t recommend highly enough. Paid £35 for 4 coffees, two fresh delicious cakes, a sausage roll plate which was also delicious, and a whisky. Lovely decor and very friendly people which seems to be the norm around here. We arrived at lunchtime and sat in the outside area. Staff were brilliant and attentive towards our little dog, who is only a puppy and can be quite noisy. My wife had a beautiful cauliflower soup and I a tomato one, both with homemade sausage rolls. My son had a ham sandwich. All delicious, 10 out of 10. Would have liked a cake but was full up! Highly recommended.

my husband I had a lovely coffee cake at Reading lasses today, the sevice was excellent, very friendly. Even though we went in mid afternoon the cakes were lovely fresh unlike many other establishments we’ve visited. Our little dog was also welcomed which made things very pleasant. Will definitely be recommending this lovely coffee shop to friends family when they visit Wigton.

We were greeted by a lovely young woman who took us through all the cakes available and then we were seated promptly. Our order was taken and we were served coffee and cake a few minutes later. Cake and coffee were excellent and the whole premise had character and a great collection of book to parouse . It was our first visit to this place and it won't be our last... First class. Stopped for a quick lunch. My son had a sandwich followed by a cream scone which he said was delicious and fresh. I settled after much deliberation) on a slice of chocolate and violet cake with coffee. Absolutely delicious light, fresh and such a lovely subtle taste combination. The range of cakes and sweet treats is exceptional it really was hard to choose. I loved the innovative flavour combinations. Absolutely 100% recommend a visit.

We were looking for a dog friendly cafe in Wigtown and had been turned away from another. Reading Lasses gave us and our dog a warm welcome and found us a table in the lovely cosy garden. Before we'd ordered there was a bowl of fresh water for our dog. The home made soup was thick and tasty (pea, coriander and pistachio) and it was hard to choose between the freshly baked cakes, because the choice was so extensive and they all looked so tasty. All were fresh and light and the coffee was the best we'd had in the area. Staff were friendly and helpful and good value for money. Would definitely recommend.

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
