"Good thing will have left or what takes for a long time will be another “institutional”. Behind my cryptic words there is a summary of the story I want to give for the best. Even if there's a Carrier Club behind today's literary house, as I only know the outside of the building, I have deliberately created my own entrance to this attraction. The impressive exterior impressed me for years at our first visit to Frankfurt during an evening when it was illuminated. Actually, I wanted to look more closely a few days later. But this time it never happened. Only when we stayed on the other side of the road, I made a “sout” in the area in the morning. I have made these and many other discoveries. I will gradually introduce the “rue” as usual! But let's go to the place just a few meters from the mainland. Even if stones could talk, what "secrets" could they betray! Only now, when I was looking for background information, I had to realize that not everything that looks old must be complete! This reminded me of a classic ancient temple, with the difference that from the beginning such a “heart” became part of the written word. Mäzenatentum has a high priority in this city for centuries. As I mentioned several times in the past: Although it was a city of riches, many “projects” were only possible through financial support from rich residents or through foundations. That was the case. But before the construction of a new library could be started, there were several “hurdles” that had to be released from the way. I meant that with the first sentence! This should be repeated several times during its history. But a little later. The first plans to establish a public library were created in 1788. That was more than necessary, because even if there were some smaller ones, they were not really suitable for the related needs. They were also thought of as “prevention”. The places were also too far apart, so it was recognized that there was a need to build a new building. Nothing happened for the first time! Only when a rich “earth” and a member’s fooder Johann Karl Brönner had agreed to support the project with his fortune, it seemed that something would change. This obligation was additionally examined. This was just an "inter stop" that could not yet be realized by various! 1812 the works could begin after Brönner died. It was postponed. On the one hand, because then the French have “breit” in the region, and because the whole situation was insecure to some of the responsible persons. Another reason was simply the uncertain situation that was perceived as such. Only after the Vienna Congress (1815) was a decision agreed... Nevertheless, it should take up to 1820 until one of the first stitches should take place. Until it could be completed, there should be another 5 years! The designs and the structural responsibility were transferred to the architect and architect Johann F. Christian Hess. The classical building should also offer accommodation from the existing 50,000 works, as well as from the outside serve as an “architectonic highlight” in the then main project. The limitation of the said architect should soon be true: due to the lack of financial framework and the associated possibilities, it was too small from the very beginning! This was a very long dispute with the "sponsors" who had completely withdrawn due to these differences (so with financial support). A few years later, further outbuildings should be built in today's Obermain facility, as it was more than tripled! After the establishment of the Reich (1871) this library should be the second largest in Hamburg! The 1st WK (1914) should follow other construction sections that should ensure proper accommodation! When I was looking for this review, it seemed to me that I was very lacking that the building leaders decided on the following: Like most buildings in the city, the old library in 1943 44 was hit several times by bombs very hard. For this reason the said building has almost completely become a "turm" of the flames. For decades, what this “consumption” remained, a very sad ruin! This was abandoned “self” because a suitable “use concept” was missing and the councils could not agree what should happen at all! Here it is shown (new that brave supporters must make it "predictable". Until the 1980s, there were at most ‘sealing measures’! Actually, only what you can see in the front view of my photos was: the main entrance with the Gibel and the columns before. The few are when you know this background, but the more exciting when you look at it from the close! It really made me a very good impression. Before I turn to it, I would like to end the history associated with it. An important step was that instead of a demolition of the portal its renovation was decided. This became more than necessary, because without an extension of the local Holy Spirit hospital on his back, the restoration work in the 1980s would most likely not be done! There was a lot of money spent (260,000 DM without a complete new building (although it would have been a historical model! Instead, another Provisional consisting of several containers for div. Exhibitions, etc. In the mid-1990s there was a call for proposals on what should happen to the property. None of these designs could convince completely: This makes me speechless, which none of them contained the old building material. There was a new dispute “pre-programmed”! A controversy after the next... They felt doubled because they feared a “historical falsification” and changed them because they had a historically correct construction. This variant should also prevail in the following decade. There was a hacking in this respect: the public hand wanted to participate in the expected costs at NO FALL. In the time of tight cash registers with a savings regulation at national level, this is no longer surprising... That makes you think. At least this is not even 20 years! In 2005, it should be as far as possible: A carrier association (Literaturhaus Frankfurt e. V. with other institutions and foundations could see what hardly seemed possible! As you can see, you've changed what I mentioned earlier. Without this background knowledge, I would not have thought it was a reconstruction. If you are interested in this facility, please look at the club. What immediately falls into the eye is the mentioned GIebel who had survived the cinnamon. There you can see different gods. Umter other Hermes and Athena with a laurel wreath. They are flanked by other figures. From the distance you can suggest who they represent. I can only point out my photos here. Uuten drunter is a magic spell in Lataine SPrache: Litteris Recuperata Libertate Civitas, which is as good as “The city [dedicateds this building] after the restoration of freedom of sciences”. If you should be there, look at it!"
