"Lovely country pub off the beaten track. Bed rooms are bright, modern and, importantly up here, warm! The food is excellent, highly recommended. Drinks are good, wine a bit pricey. Not really anywhere much just to sit and have a quiet drink though, unless you want to sit at tables that double as bar dining tables. All in all though, a great place to stay and eat whilst visiting Hadrian’s Wall territory. Hotel highlights: Great view"

"I’d passed by this place many times and hardly noticed it, but de iced it was a nice sunny day for a run out, and decided to visit for a coffe and cake. The menu was tempting however, so I decided on eggs benedict with Salmon and spinach, and it’s only just occurred to me that there was no salmon!...This could be due to a misunderstanding however, as there were one or two variants...and I didn’t like to say but the eggs were both undercooked. I was hoping the second egg was spot on but no excessively runny whites everywhere. My wife had the duck hoisin panini which I tasted and it was really tasty, and plenty of it. One touch I really appreciate was being advised that the young lady who attended our table was new, and learning the job. I like to know....The place is cosy and atmospheric, with a variety of artwork and prints on display. My other niggle is I don’t like tables sprayed and cleaned whilst I’m eating...it could have waited...but the staff were thorough, and extremely welcoming and pleasant."

"We visited on Monday 21st February 2022 but won't be going back. This is a cafe we've visited many times before it was altered last year. Previously, seats were in a lovely airy room with outside views all around. Not any more. The tables were in a straight row down the side of the room, at the bottom was a door to outside which kept blowing open, the door to the kitchen was alongside us and a speaker blared too loud music above our heads. The display case for cakes etc. was virtually empty and it took ages for our scones and coffee to be brought, we were the only visitors at the time though other people did come in. Our small table was filthy. What a disappointment and waste of money. We asked for sugar for the coffee but it seems they only had one sugar dish as this was then taken for someone else.Only positive was that the scone tasted nice."

"We went for my birthday Sunday lunch and weren't disappointed. Staff were very friendly, we were shown to our table and drinks orders were taken, after 5 or 10 mins the waiter returned to see if we were ready to order, yes please. I went for a monkfish stater, having never had monkfish I was thoroughly impressed, decent chunks cooked in bread crumbs and served with tartar sauce and samphire, delicious. I opted for beef (pink) for my main which was beautiful, served with roasties, greens (leek, cabbage, green beans) and the biggest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen. I'd thoroughly recommend giving this place a try if you like good food. There's a few negative reviews on hear relating to the management, many are written years ago and I know the place has recently been taken over so I'd ignore these comments and give it a go, we had a great time and will definitely be back. Oh there's a decent sized garden with a small play park for the kids too."

"Booked table but when we arrived they had ran out of quite a lot of the menu. Told that it was due to walk ins. Only had Beef, fish and chips or veggie option. Same issue with starters and desserts. It's a bit out, so it's not like you can just pop elsewhere. To be fair the beef was nice, but it's about the only plus. Asked for bill 4 times and then waited to pay we just got up. It's not a cheap meal either, so you expect more for your money and I'd suggest if wanting to go then don't reserve. I wanted earlier but was told on site it was fully booked. Bit of a bad day out with friends, so I wouldnt travel out for the risk and price. Plenty nice places willing to take less money."
