Lovely pub situated on the green in the heart of the village of Meavy just outside Yelverton. Had a great tasting Christmas dinner mid December. Nice atmosphere with friendly attentive service. Ver carta

The food was absolutely delicious, faultless . The pub was very busy, and therefore quite noisy with customers. Unfortunately there was a group who had no concept of personal space, and gathered around our table, quite close to our little ones . They were almost on our table and very loud! This is obviously in no way any fault of the Royal Oak... I just needed to vent. This is likely the best hidden gem in Devon, but let's keep it a secret! Seriously, the pub is beautifully situated in Meavy, and the ambiance is both traditional and welcoming while maintaining a professional touch. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to customer needs. Best of all, they accept contactless payments, even when there's no phone signal – you can sit outside and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I ordered a blue cheeseburger, which was absolutely delicious and served hot. Lastly, the owner is a former Navy serviceman, which makes him a genuinely nice guy.

I've dined at the Royal Oak many times over the years, and it has always been our favorite spot for a good Sunday roast. However, I doubt we'll return after our recent visit. Last week, we were shocked by the tiny portion we were served for £18! It seemed like they had run out of vegetables, and I was hoping for a side bowl to come with some extras, but that never happened. Although the presentation of the meager serving was nice, the overall experience was disappointing. Additionally, the service was incredibly slow; we had to ask for the bill three times.
