"The restaurant is a little off the beaten path - but it is worth the effort. Very close to the main shopping area in Ehrenfeld - and there is a public parking area just next to the restaurant. I just ate there at Selam with a party of four people - and we shared a vegetarian mixed platter. There was a wide variety of tastes and textures. The portions were more than generous at a very fair price. The waitress (who was also the owner) told us that it was her mother doing the cooking. She spoke excellent English - and German of course - and was a wonderful hostess. The seating was comfortable and the vibe very comfortable and classy - with tasteful African decorations. I will be going there again when I am back in Cologne."

Classic, delicious, and authentic Ethiopian food with excellent service and good prices. If you are looking for something new to try (or you already like Ethiopian food) I highly recommend Selam.

Great ethopian food, sometimes you need something different. Here you can eat with your hands and the wine is great too. The service is great and she can also speak english. You dont even have to wait long for the food.

Super friendly staff, helpful. The food was amazing and quick even though it's ethiopian Food which usually takes longer. The owner herself served us! The atmosphere was really cozy and comfortable. I felt at home It was clean!

My first proper experience of Ethiopian food and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend getting the mixed platter. I did not do this and regretted it. Also get yourself an Ethiopian beer and a moka of coffee to finish with. Friendly staff. Would probably be a regular customer if only I lived in Cologne...

This is a nice restaurant where you can enjoyed Ethiopian kitchen. Food is very good. Typical Ethiopian dishes are elaborated with vegetables or meat with tortillas or crêp to pick up with your hands. In general food is a little bit spicy as they have several condiments. We enjoyed the food. I can recommend you this restaurant.

We were in the area and decided to stop in and give it a try. Me and my friends have all had Ethiopian before, but it has been awhile, so the waitress just brought us a large platter for 4, it was delicious. I highly recommend just getting a large platter if you are not a picky eater and want to try a bit of everything. They will make it to your specific spice preference. Additionally, the beer was quite good and went very well with the meal. I would definitely eat here again.

We wished to make some culinary experience and to avoid any German standard like schnitzel...Based on all tips we found on trip advisor we decided to try this surprising Ethiopian restaurant. To be sure to have a global overview, we decided to take the samplings as starters and main courses. Everything was very tasty, prices maybe a little expensive for Germany, drinks like wine very classical (South African merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) and affordable. Very friendly service and explanations but unfortunately, there s only one waitress for the whole restaurant which can cause some additional waiting times in the rush hour.

Selam was one of those places towards which the expectations were difficult to assemble as we have never had any African food before. It seems that the cuisine is Ethiopian-oriented and vegetarian as well as beef main dishes are offered. Not to mention starters and a narrower selection of lamb and chicken dishes. What we found very nice was a possibility to select mixed plates, consisting of moderate amounts of various dishes - great for tasting and exchanging. Our orders were served on fluffy and dark kind of pancakes and were meant to be consumed by hand. All in all, the food is tasty, unique and definitely worth a try. Book a table in advance - this is quite a popular destination.

"We had an important appointment in Cologne and wanted to go for dinner afterwards. It should not be a long menu or include elaborate dishes because we didn't have so much time. It should also be close to the destination. After Christmas and before New Year's Eve, at noon there were not so many locals open business breaks, changed opening hours etc. We found a parking lot on the street and saw Karl Hermanns right in front of us. The restaurant made the impression that it used to house a retail store: shop windows and two entrance doors. Room inside the counter was to be seen directly in the center. On the right there were some tables and high places. Theke Links of this were several bistrotic with benches and chairs. We went there because we don't like sitting on high tables. Our place cutlery In a hose-like passage left next to the counter in the direction of the kitchen and sanitary area there were other guest places. Gang On the walls hung some big oil paintings. Several lights hung on the ceiling with numerous incandescent lamps. From the boxes came subtle music of the Beatles and of Elvis. The plain table tops were only equipped with cutlery and thick paper napkins. Cleanliness Everything worked neatly well maintained. The sanitary area was very small and slightly angled. But clean and tidy. There were also small cloth towels. Service Two young ladies are cutting the service. The cook brings the burgers to the table. All powers were friendly and did their service without problems. They asked our wishes and served quickly. After ordering took a little longer. For billing they needed some time, but the payment did not make any problems. Map n The card was accommodated on a clamping block. The dishes were clearly listed per page and well explained. First a few starters, the burgers and steaks of course, the vegetarian offer, the supplements pommes, salads, vegetables, sauces and two desserts. The quality of the meat was therefore good to taste; it was little seasoned. Even the ingredients hardly distracted from the meat. But the crispy salty bacon made the burger somewhat more characterful and round in taste; I therefore liked it best of the three copies. Good meat should not be “distorted” by too many spices is also my opinion, but there is more salt and a pinch of pepper. Also a supplement of “big aromas” to the pure “grain taste” adds very much to himself. A bowl with Pommes sea salt flakes from the North Sea 4,00 € The pommes are fritted in the cattle valley by the Boeuf de Hohenlohe. The potatoes were cut in long and thick pieces. That's exactly how I like Pommes. They were slightly chessed too much roasted aromas should be harmful to health and soft and juicy inside. The salt was also used sparingly. The taste of potatoes was still clearly present. So actually right – but I still prefer to have Pommes on the outside a bit crispy and darker. Several thick blackberries gave a beautiful acidity and sweetness. I like two slices of fresh juicy oranges. However, I could hardly use the fresh thyme branches; I tried to mix them with the orange or bring them into contact. I didn't want to eat the leaves without success and pure, of course – it was a decoration similar to rosemary branches on meat occasional. Beverages Viva con Agua Mineral Water Leise 0.33 l – 3,00 € The spring water comes from a pollutant-protected underground reservoir. Due to the low content of sodium it has a gentle taste.
