Small Batch Coffee - Carta

Choice of sandwiches very poor and not appetising! Strange fillings. Table wasn’t wiped before we sat down. Too pricey! Definitely would not return!!!

Always excellent coffee, friendly staff. Nice outside seating area to enjoy sunny days. Plenty of space to work with a laptop if that’s what you want to do.

The coffee at this restaurant is consistently delicious and fresh. I have visited four times and each time the quality has been excellent. The staff is friendly and the other customers are also pleasant.

The restaurant is now refusing to take cash, which is illegal in England. However, there are many other dining options in Brighton and Hove to choose from. The quality of the restaurant has declined since Mr. Johnson sold it.

We went to this small batch because we heard they now had a Brunch menu. We found the staff friendly and helpful, they were quite busy and we don't like to be fussed over. We ordered a Avocado and toast (Sourdough bread) with a side 2 poached eggs each and some coffee. The coffee arrived quickly and was very nice. The food also arrived in quick order. I fell into Small Batch on Western Road after googling 'dog friendly cafes ' as I needed to sneak out from my building with my dog. I ordered an oat cappuccino and some toast arrived really quickly and the portion of toast was huge, 4 slices of sourdough with butter and jam. The lovely women working actually gave me some jam to takeaway as I loved it so much! Highly recommend, super chilled and they love dogs!

At around 2:15 on 29/05/22, my group and I have always been fans of Small Batch. However, when our drinks were served outside and we asked a female staff member for sugar, she pointed inside and said it was in there before walking away. One of us went inside to get the sugar and overheard her complaining about us asking for it. When we confronted her (firmly, not rudely), she responded rudely and refused to apologize. The male staff member did not intervene. This kind of response is not typical at Small Batch or any other café, and we found it to be a disgusting display of customer service. We will not be returning.

A victim of its own success, the ever popular Small Batch on Western Road has lost its best staff and is now lazy, grubby and produces too often) undrinkable coffee. Twice over the weekend I, and then we, went back hoping it was a blip it wasn't) ordered cappuccinos and came away the first time with something more like hot chocolate and the second time with two different drinks, one made with oat milk and the second even sweeter and clearly not coffee at all. The Barista and co were clearly having a lovely time ignoring customers, looking cool and slopping milk randomly into mugs and cups.
