"My husband and I were staying at the campsite nearby and had made a reservation at the restaurant a month in advance. They sent me a confirmation email on the day of our reservation, so I had high hopes for their efficiency. Unfortunately, we arrived on time only to be ignored and overlooked for ten minutes. Finally, we had to physically stop a waitress passing by to be seated. We had to hold onto her until she took our drink order. When we asked to order our food, she told us to wait and disappeared. After twenty minutes, we had to flag her down to take our order, but by then my first choice was already sold out. The food was good when it eventually arrived, but it took 45 minutes. We decided not to wait any longer for dessert, so my husband went to pay the bill. Shockingly, he was asked to leave a tip! The next day, I received an automated email from manager/chef Mark Forman, hoping we had a great experience. I shared our negative experience with him, to which he explained the challenges they were facing with understaffing and invited us to return for better treatment. We declined, but we would have appreciated a refund. We felt unwelcome and disrespected during our visit."

Nice pub with a decent menu and beers. Friendly staff too. It gets busy so book ahead. Menu is quite broad, so plenty of options for everyone.

Visited twice on our latest week away at Horburne Blue Anchor. Both evenings service was prompt and friendly, as always, and quality and taste was as good as ever. Keep it up.

The very friendly and helpful staff made our visit a most enjoyable one. The dog was welcomed in both the bar and restaurant. We were made to feel like a local in the bar by the staff and the locals who frequented the Smugglers Inn, providing information about the fishing off the wall at Blue Anchor.

Although there were some staffing and kitchen issues causing a delay in our dinner being served, it was definitely worth the wait. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, with reasonable prices. The restaurant was bustling with a good atmosphere, clean surroundings, and attractive decor. Despite being busy, the staff were polite and helpful. I would recommend visiting this restaurant.

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
