"I really like this place. eating is fresh and tasty and they allow them to bring their own drinks, which really makes for a relaxed evening without worrying about a huge bill at the end. food prices are very reasonable, and two of us had 2 courses with poppadomen, brot and sweet sides for under £30. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I found my Madras sauce easily on the thin side. I have eaten a lot of madras curry at different places and in the rule is the sauce quite thick with a lot of fresh coriander. the Naan bread and the saag distributor were absolutely amazing and at a distance some of the best I have eaten. a visit worth a hungry evening."

We have been here a few time before going to the Regent. It’s fabulous. The food is amazing. The service excellent. Some of the nicest food we have found, and lovely people. It’s small and you need to take your own alcohol if required. Personally I’d order a lassi It’s not the most beautiful restaurant but it’s fabulous food Amazing

Visited with friends before an 80s gig at the nearby Regent. Everything we had was so good, as always. Onion bhajis, rice dishes, dhansaks, madras and tamarind mains, keema naans were delicious. It is worth a visit to Sonar Bangla, it's small but book a table and don't forget to take your own alcohol if that's your thing or they do sell soft drinks.

this is by far the simplest review I have ever given. eating, service and keeping this equipment have not changed in the 8 years I use with them. the sonar bangla is simply the best place in not only ipswich, but also for many miles, as well as any restaurant they would pay 5 times the price for in london. they are simply in a completely different league to any other place I have tried. Just try them, it's so simple, fantastic eating, inexpensive, what else to say? Ver carta

having the big little jewel with 4 friends was totally surprised by the excellent delicious food. our waiter, whom we called h, was so friendly and spoke through the menu. we had the restaurant for us. the dishes all came hot and the dishes were a good size portion wise. we all decided that we would all definitely visit again. I can't speak very enough of sonar bangla. I would recommend this place, they will not be disappointed. Forget to mention prices are very reasonable.

Haven't eaten in, but have ordered takeaway for delivery from here 4 or 5 times now. Without fail it's been excellent. Very good value in the current climate, a wide range of dishes and proper flavours. The delivery times quoted are reasonable, and it has always arrived on or before when they've said. Good service too, from the person who takes the phone order to the delivery guys everyone's friendly and efficient. Wouldn't normally review a place for takeaway, but this deserves it.

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
